vB Stars Hack
 

What Does This Hack Do?: It adds stars to your postbit based on the number of posts you have. You earn a star by Y number of posts (you can set Y in the admin control panel).
For every 10 stars (that's 10 x Y posts) you get a other color star, for 10 other color stars you get another color star, etc, you see the point (i hope, or see screenshot :D).
THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE OTHER STAR HACKS THAT ARE ALREADY AVAILABLE

Installation: Very easy ;)
upload the images in the zip to your imagesfolder/stars/
when you have vbhacker, you can install this hack very easily with the included vbhacker install file...
also in the zip is a text file for manual installation (if you prefer that ;))
after you installed the hack, please set the options in the admin cp -> vb options -> vb star hack options or else this hack won't work!

Additional Info: This hack has been tested on 2.2.9 and on 2.3.0, but as the code is very simple and works almost fully on it's own, it should work 100% correct on 2.2.x (and lower even?) but i'm not here to test that ;)

currently there is no way of upgrading. You'll have to re-install the hack for now...
added a nice vbhacker install file for easy installation, also in the zip is a text file if you want to do it manual ;)

i found out that you need to edit the number in the admin cp -> vB Options at least once or else it won't work! very strange problem...
updated the zip now ;)

Yea I would install this if I didn't just write my own version of this thats might be more editable than yours.....

It has been done but the older one needs lots of modifacations to work with newer vBs

Is it working with 2.2.5 ?

if you'd have read the 1st post, you'd know by now that it is guaranteed to work with 2.3.0 and 2.2.9, but no other version is tested (although it should work without any problems!)

I installed via vbHacker and get the following error after making the changes to admin/functions.php:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/nestreet/public_html/forum/admin/functions.php on line 2478

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getuserinfo() in /home/nestreet/public_html/forum/admin/sessions.php on line 366

Ok nevermind. The hacker install didn't tell me ALL of the code I needed to add manually....I installed via the txt file and it went fine.

I like this hack, but I would like to change it slightly so that it only displays one row of stars. Say, 1 star for every 100 posts. I've messed around a little bit trying to do this, but haven't been able to get it to work properly. Any ideas? I'm not concerned with multiple color stars or anything.

Look under 'templates' in the admin cp (very bottom of the left menu).

with the hack installed, in the postbit template, find:

REPLACE with:


now, in the vb options, set the 'Stars Hack Number' to 1...
enjoy ;) (you can change the image, right one is: '3rd Star Image

(ok, this will still use all the code (some is useless now ;)) but i have no time at this moment, so this quick (and 100% working) fix will do i guess ;))

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you said, but now the number of stars doens't really seem to have much relevance to their post count. I have users with 1 star that have over 4000 posts...and users with 1200 posts and 6 stars.

was messin around with the other ones - never could get them going right...
this one installed very easily :) using vbhacker
(I had to manually edit the postbit - due to different codes from my forum skin)
(yes I'm a newbie to this, but learning fast)
because of this (i think),,, I had to run the query's again as the vbstars options, didn't show up in my vb options...

now for a newbie question:

when I did this the vb stars options showed double.
how do I get rid of double options?

(i'm guessing it is just a matter of running another query, but I don't know what it should be)

here's a pic of my problem:

edit admin/config.php and set $debug to 1

now you can edit the options in the admin cp (3 new links will show up)
i think you'll find your way around with this ;)

(and don't forget to set $debug to 0 or anything again afterwards!!!!!)

The version of this hack I'm looking for is one that has the multiple colors of stars available, but instead of basing them on tiers of posting, a different color star is assigned to each usergroup. (Say, for example, registered users get yellow, moderators get green, and adminstrators get red, but all groups get stars at the same rate.)

I have now run the queries 3 times and they are still not showing up in the controlpanel. I have ofcourse also changed functions.php and the postbit.
Any ideas?

Yep .. exactly what I'm looking for too.

I have it on 2.3.2 and works fine, its great! Only problem is that only one row of stars shows, one member has 535 posts (set star for 50 posts) only pink shows, would like all yellow to show and pink like your attachment shows. Had it installed by another person, but would like to get it showing all rows . Any ideas?
