[ACCEPTED] Feature Request that Requires no Hacking
 

Could you all be convinced to add a new field to the profile for first name and then to display that field on the postbit? I did this on my board, and have found that it really helps with community building because people have names rather than just usernames.

I just hacked my board to use the names in the quotes if they are set :D Thanks for the idea Bernard. I posted how I did it in the release forum, but I am sure there is bound to be a better way.

Ya know , Filburt, you were one of the reasons I wanted this hack. Don't like calling you filburt. Was hoping you had a nice name like Michael, or Robert, or anything other than "not filburt" :D

Xenon - Where and how do I do the preg_replace for the post[username]? I must be getting it wrong because I still have the post[username] instead of the $realname in the messages. ;)

It's a good idea. :) Usually people are meant to use their sigs to put in their real name if they want.

As for using the real names for quotes (which is easily done with a template edit) - I think we will NOT do that, basically because the username is what we base memberlist searches on - having the real name in quotes would not assist another member trying to find posts by the same member.
