The [you] hack results
 

I just received an interesting message regarding the [high][disable][you][/disable][/high] hack put out by Mutt. I have a forum on my site that is set up with the code in the forum title so it always shows as the user's forum (it is called "Boofos private Forum" when I am looking at it). Here is the actual note (name and other information has been removed for privacy reasons) I received.

Everyone else has had a blast with it. I kind of figured this would happen someday though. I will not remove the hack OR the forum, but anyone attempting this, this is what can happen. ;)

By the way, the bbcode in dovars didn't work for the whole site. It just worked for the bbcode part. Not the navbar or thread[title] or anything else. ;)

Don't it, though? :) The sad thing is, his registration had nothing whatsoever to do with the forum or him seeing his name on it. Registration information is kept totally confidential on the site. There are bound to be those that don't have a very keen sense of humor about such things.

You know, you can make a private forum like this by just setting permissions so he can only see his own threads.

It's not really a private fiorum. It just says the user's name private forum. ;)

I know, I'm just saying you actually can do this. The forum "My Tip Candidates" at WDF works with these permissions and members only see their threads while I see all of them so I can validate them and move them to the Tip of the Day forum where they show up on forumhome. But to them it just looks like a personalized forum.

After a year of having fun with this hack, I've decided to remove it because too many people can't understand the concept. I've received dozens of PMs and emails from pissed off members who feel the've been "targeted" and it's time for it to go.

Great hack idea tho! Maybe the next version will have the option to only be available for certain usergroups so my ++++head members won't pissoff my newbie members. =) lol
