Really Big Template Editor

This hack makes the Edit Template/Add Template boxes much bigger than the default sizes. This is best for users with high resolutions (1152x864 or higher) who have the screen real estate that vB doesn't use.

filburt1 03-20-2003 09:55 PM

Screenshot (I'm running at 1280x1024):

Xenon 03-20-2003 10:00 PM

wow, that's really a hard to installing hack :D

filburt1 03-20-2003 10:01 PM

It took more time to open Notepad and type the instructions then take a screenshot than actually finding where to make the code edits :p

filburt1 03-20-2003 10:07 PM

It makes the textareas for editing/adding templates much bigger than their default 25 rows by 50 columns.

Xenon 03-20-2003 10:08 PM

loool, i feel a lot of irony in here ^^

colicab-d 03-20-2003 10:11 PM

lmao nice one

Xenon 03-20-2003 10:14 PM

i really understand why filburt cant guarantee to provide support for this hack.

it's quite complex and support is hard....

filburt1 03-20-2003 10:20 PM

That's what's supposed to happen :p. Just change ,50,100 to lower dimensions to better fit your screen resolution.

N!ck 03-20-2003 10:42 PM

help i cant see my templates

filburt1 03-20-2003 10:44 PM

Then you didn't install it properly. It's impossible for this mod to not make templates show at all.

Davey 03-20-2003 10:48 PM

LMAO.
Nice idea.
This is probably one of the shortest instruction files I've seen yet.
Thx.

Dave.

PS: I probably wont install it so no point in clicking install.
But it's a nice idea.

John 03-20-2003 10:54 PM

Did this on my own forums, never got round to releasing it - nice one Filbert ;)

Time to stop messing with your mind :)

Nicely done and thank you. It was a snap to install and really makes a big difference.

Chris Gwynne 03-20-2003 11:08 PM

I don't get how to install it.. Can someone PM me with how please. :(

Boofo 03-20-2003 11:50 PM

If this gets hack of the month, I'm outta here! ;)

PHP Code:

if(numbers==math and filburt=math) {
shutdown="The 2 do not play well together";
} else {
shutdown="Install, it might work";

Nick is licensed. And members should NEVER put their license info in their profile.

Interesting hack, filburt1. It's too big a hack so I gave up after reading the first 200 lines of instructions... ;)

Overgrow 03-21-2003 05:22 AM

Erwin, please send your license information to me in e-mail to obtain support on these forums. Thank you.

Chris Gwynne 03-21-2003 05:27 AM

Wait, you have to be licensed to use vB.org ?

Well thanks for letting me in on that secret!

Boofo 03-21-2003 05:27 AM

Erwin, send me money instead. ;)

mneurath 03-21-2003 07:38 AM

Send some money to all of us, and you can rest assured that we will put some gifs together that give you a hint of what your forum once looked like.

filburt1 03-21-2003 10:46 AM

Stop screwing around in my thread please, it may be a simple hack but so what?

Boofo 03-21-2003 12:32 PM

filburt, if we didn't like ya we wouldn't mess with ya. ;) Sorry if you took offense. ;)

Dean C 03-21-2003 02:34 PM

Nice hack burt

Tech question:

How do we check the max resolution our monitor can go to?

Regards

- miSt

filburt1 03-21-2003 02:36 PM

Right-click Desktop, Properties, Settings, move the slider until you see smoke.

N9ne 03-21-2003 02:50 PM

Um, good idea, I never actually thought of doing this kind of thing before...lol, will um, install? Even though it's relatively simple :p

VeoMorphine 03-21-2003 04:31 PM

Omg.... this is really hard to install......
Im getting database errors up the ying yang........

Its to many file edits to.... Can somone make a vb hacker file for it? It may be to much for vb hacker though.

:D

filburt1 03-21-2003 04:45 PM

Guys, I'm serious, stop crapping all over my thread. It may shock you that people might actually have questions about this hack.

Dean C 03-21-2003 05:36 PM

Yes i agree - please stop using this thread as a basis for spamming or comments on how poor this hack is because it is so simple - some people (including myself) will find this useful...

Regards

- miSt

P.S - fiburt i got big errors when trying to set it to max resolution ;) Does a monitor usually come with documentation on its maximum supportable resolution?

- miSt

filburt1 03-21-2003 05:40 PM

It's dependent on the video card and the monitor. Just set it higher and higher until it stops showing an image.

007 03-21-2003 06:18 PM

lol! This was a good idea. *clicks install* I find it very useful.

And seriously, don't post sarcastic calls for help. It makes it hard to tell who really needs it. I was confused when reading this thread. I then opened the "install file" and OMG. Easiest "hack" ever. But like filburt said, what is easy for one person may be more difficult for another.

I'm sure it did take some time to figure out what exactly to edit to change the size of the window too. Good job Filburt. This was very helpful. :)

One thing I noticed quickly is that you said this was for monitors with higher resolutions. For anyone who has a lower res, you can try decreasing the number of rows shows (50 by default in the install file). Try maybe 40, or 30. Until it all fits on your screen. ;)

EDIT: Whooaa, Filbert's avatar changed right as I posted this. Just thought I would point that out.

filburt1 03-21-2003 06:29 PM

I haven't changed my avatar for at least a week...for that matter this is only my second one here.

Buddha 03-21-2003 11:13 PM

hey filburt1, thanks a lot.

did some poking around to fix the replacements like this too.

thanks.

Dean C 03-22-2003 09:59 AM

Filburt - i kept changing it and the image still showed yet when i changed the resolution to it it gave a big error message on my monitor saying that it was not supported... :(
