What payment system do you use?

Guys,

I need some feedback here. Currently I use paypal, and USPS for members to contribute to the site. I have quite a few members who do not live in the US. Problem is, too many people don't trust paypal, or you need to have an account with them to pay. Many do not want a paypay account, and its a pain when you sign up, you need to verify your account and international members can't send money.

USPS is ok, but its a nightmare to signup, and there is a monthly fee.

I looked into 2checkout, and need some feedback. The only problem I know of at this point is that some international members can't use it to send money.

Anyone else using a service that they can recommend?

I need:

1. The ability for members to send from over-seas.
2. Has to be easy to send money.
3. Low fees
4. Trustworthy

Well, Paypal has always been my favorite, and I've had no problems with it. :)

The Amazon Honor system is a good backup system for non-paypal users.

My members use PayPal and personal checks to donate to WDF. Nobody's requested any other method to my knowledge.

Lesane 03-14-2003 09:01 PM

A disadvantage of paypal is the creditcard requirement! I don't have one...boooooo

filburt1 03-14-2003 09:07 PM

You can confirm with a bank account.

Lesane 03-14-2003 09:10 PM

Is that new? Because the last time i checked it told me to upgrade the account with a cc to send/receive money.

Lesane 03-14-2003 09:21 PM

From paypal:

Q: Do I have to add my credit card in order to use PayPal?
A: Yes. As a security measure, your account will not be active until you confirm you email address, add a credit card and enter your Member Number.

filburt1 03-14-2003 09:21 PM

No, it's how I activated mine about a year ago.

sabret00the 03-14-2003 09:35 PM

anyway to add to this try nochex and i use paypal

Tony G 03-14-2003 10:38 PM

Paypal seems to be the popular thing around, so I use it too.

Erwin 03-14-2003 11:01 PM

Paypal is great for me = I'm in Australia, and I am able to directly transfer money from my paypal account to my bank account - something no other merchant provider has been able to do.

Smoothie 03-15-2003 03:28 AM

It seems that paypal can't be used for some over-seas members. Another problem with paypal is you have to wait and get that 4 digit code to confirm your account. paypal deposits like $.05 in your checking account, and you need the 4 digit code from your statement.

So.... if a member wants to donate/contribute/whatever, and they do not have a paypal account, they can't send you money without first going thru this hassle... which isn't immediate.

Anyone used 2checkout for site subscriptions/contributions?

Erwin 03-15-2003 03:30 AM

To pay using paypal is not a problem. All you need is a credit card. It's only if you want to make your paypal account be able to receive money, then you need to verify it.

Dean C 03-15-2003 09:48 AM

That's not true Erwin. Im in the UK and have a bank account and can receive money and withdraw it into my bank account and also pay money from my paypal balance if i choose not to withdraw it straight away. You only need a credit care to become a verified member...

Only snag is ?1.00 per withdrawal :)

:( a pound :( thats harsh

Dean C 03-15-2003 03:55 PM

I know - but when your recieving payments of $200 a week you just withdraw it in one big go when your ready ;)

Erwin 03-15-2003 08:14 PM

Paypal reduced the money for withdrawal actually just 2 days ago.

*Goes off to check*

How do I put paypal on my forum?

DrkFusion 10-26-2003 02:28 AM

I use Paypal & 2checkout.

@MadCat75, you can check out PayPal's tutorials on how to add buy buttons and donate buttons on your site, and how to start shopping carts etc. Paypal has a very complete database which code and all, it is one of the best resources! Really easy.

MaDCaT75 10-26-2003 02:37 AM

I just wanna charge people for signing up on my forum

Go to paypal.com look around for information on IPN and/or Shopping Cart
I think IPN is what you are looking for, when payments are received it will then follow through with any other execution of scripts. I believe vb3 has capabilities for paypal (IPN) integration.

bvtonedog 10-26-2003 02:15 AM

about the paypal and credit card thing, unless they changed that recently is isnt a requirement i think that is just to become verified and up your sending limit, but you can connect paypal to your checking/bank account and send money directly from there

I looked around for IPN but cannot find it.... I give up :(

Erwin 10-26-2003 03:15 AM

Bear in mind that in vB3, Paypal is fully integrated. It works well, though there are some bugs.

Velocd 10-26-2003 03:28 AM

PayPal IPN is great with PHP. PayPal documents it very thoroughly on their site.

If only I could figure out how to do the same in equal effort with 2checkout. :ermm:

I'll have to look into the vB3 feature of PayPal when RC is available.

Will it basically be:

User registers at site -> Is redirected to Paypal site -> Pays -> Paypal IPN executes your script that verify's member -> Bingo!

The word 'subscription' is a bit weird here. Does that mean "pay monthly" or "pay once upon registration."

when i joined paypal i only had a debit card and it has brought me many happy transactions :)

MaDCaT75 10-26-2003 07:39 AM

Ok then can someone point me out to a hack that I can charge people just for extra forum features?

sabret00the 10-26-2003 08:56 AM

use a donation type hack that will instantly notify you then move em into a user group where you've defined the extra features :dunno:

i'm looking for the same thing. here's the structure:
nonregistered users/guests - get very limited access
registered users get a little more
paid users get full access

the problem is that i can't use paypal because they're not a fan of adult content, which is the purpose of my site.

i'd like to be able to accept credit cards directly or use any merchant tht doesn't care about the content... any thoughts?

nufc fan 05-12-2006 05:59 PM

i wish i could accept them too
