From my days in Tech Support

Dear Technical Support,

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. No mention of this was included with the product information. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed herself into all other programs and now launches during system initialization, where it monitors all other activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Drunken Boy's Night 2.5, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5 and Racing 3.6 no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected. I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the 'Uninstall' doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please can you help?

Signed, A Troubled User

Dear Troubled User,

This is a very common problem that men complain about and is due to a primary misconception. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 thinking that it is merely a "Utilities and Entertainment" program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its creator to run everything! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and return to Girlfriend 7.0 as hidden operating files cause Girlfriend 7.0 to emulate Wife 1.0, so nothing is gained.

It is also impossible to uninstall, delete, or purge the program files from the system once installed. You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Some have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but end up with more problems than in the original system.

Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under "Warnings: Maintenance/Child Support". I recommend that you keep Wife 1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application program "Yes_Dear" to alleviate software augmentation. Having installed Wife 1.0 myself, I also suggest you read the entire section regarding "General Partnership Faults (GPF)".

You must assume all responsibility for any faults and problems that occur, regardless of their cause. You will also find that GPF's tend to be somewhat cyclical, occurring approximately 28 days apart. The best course of action is to enter the command C:\yes_dear because ultimately you will have to use the "apologize" command before the system will return to normal anyway. Remember, the system will run smoothly as long as you take the blame for all the GPF's. Wife 1.0 is a great program, but tends to require very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs such as Clean_and_Sweep 3.0, Cook_It 1.5 (which replaces Burn_It 1.0) and Do-Bills 4.2. You must however be very careful how to use these programs, as improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag_Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0 should this happen.

WARNING!! *DO NOT* under any circumstances, install Secretary_With_Short_Skirt. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.

Best of luck,

Technical Support.

*gggg*

Thanks god i've uninstalled Girlfriend 7.0 and installed the alternate Single Life 2.0 Operating Systems.
Much less problems since then :)

I'm still waiting for Girlfriend 0.1 alpha pre-release...

Boofo 03-12-2003 04:34 PM

Damn, son, that program won't even run on what you got anymore. ;)

Dean C 03-12-2003 05:14 PM

I'm suprised your CPU is still running Boofo ;)

Boofo 03-12-2003 05:24 PM

As long as I boot into [high]C:\I'm_sorry[/high] with [high]your_always_right 1.5[/high] and [high]I_know_I_messed_up 3.2[/high] and then run [high]mow_the_lawn 3.0[/high], [high]Take_out_the_garbage 1.5[/high] and [high]feed_the_kids 2.1[/high], then [high]Wife 3.0[/high] does not autorun [high]Nag_Nag 9.5[/high]. Worth the trade-off to me.

Dean C 03-12-2003 05:39 PM

Haha !

Xenon 03-12-2003 06:58 PM

don't install it.
it will cost you a lot of nerv resources ;)

Boofo 03-12-2003 07:35 PM

After you have been married as many years as I have (total), the nerves are numb to any kind of attack or drainage. ;)

Xenon;
Too late, i'm caught up in GirlFriend 0.1 astonishing good looks;)

Chris Gwynne 03-13-2003 02:24 PM

I'm interested in the LaZy Boy 4.2 with the built-in wife noise reduction modification... Anyone use this? :p

N9ne 03-13-2003 03:36 PM

I hate it when you go to buy a new version of Girlfriend and it looks great on the box, but when you've bought it and get inside and install it, it just doesn't work efficiently with your operating system :p

Boofo 03-13-2003 03:54 PM

Did you read the warning?

You have to completely uninstall whatever else you have in there. This goes for earlier (or later) versions of Girlfriend, too. They do NOT play nice together. And if they DO play nice together, you don't stand a chance then. ;)

The day that Wife 1.0 and Girlfriend 8.0 are compatable, will be a great day :D.

Boofo 03-13-2003 04:13 PM

You better hope that day never comes. If they are compatible, why would they need us? ;)

Xenon 03-13-2003 04:28 PM

Hmm, the new Single Life 3 Beta 1 has a multithreading ability to run more Girlfriend Applications paralell, but be warned, systemresources go down extremly fast..

Boofo 03-13-2003 04:33 PM

I've been reading about that new release. It sounds interesting. But I have also heard that as long as they NEVER try to access the same data at the same time, you should be all set. If they do, the license is revoked and you will be forced to run Flowers and Grovel 10.1. to be able to access the system again (if there is anything left of it). ;)

Xenon 03-13-2003 04:38 PM

yes, correct, they hope to solve the problem before the first Release Candidate.
But for now there are also great problems with Spyware like Girlfriends' best friend 1.0 and so...

Boofo 03-13-2003 07:58 PM

I've heard about that program. It contains a virus called "you_ deserve_better_than_him" and has some nasty side affects. It will change a lot of the coding that you have programmed into Girlfriend 1.0 AND Wife (all versions) if you ever run that in the future. It mixes about as well as peanut butter and cement. Be vewy, vewy careful!
