Scavenger HUNT hack
 

My members are looking for something else to do on the forums. So i had this ideaof a scavenger hunt hack.

In this hack basically you make an image that your members need to find. An image or a link or anything. This hack would place that image somewhere in your board.. could be in a post.. could be in the FAQ.. basically anywhere. The first person who finds the item and clicks it wins the hunt. When they click it an Admin is told via PM or Email, and possibly a thread is automatically created in a specific forum that tells of te winner.

Is this too out there or is it not totally fun.. I would think this would be really fun on boards. I have been doing it manually but i think an automated system would be MUCH easier. :)

Cute idea. :) I am not going to promise to do it cause I have to work tomorrow but I am sure it will be done by somebody if not me in the near future.

Its a really fun idea. Increases board use...perhaps some form of integration like with LESANEs Store or even ITEMSHOP points can be given as prizes...i have atleast 20-30 board junkies who just sit on the board... something like this gets them to look around more.. hehe.

Do you want the part where it places the image in a random post automated too or just the new thread and the PM when somebody finds it?

Well, basically i places the image in a random template or inside a random ACTIVE post.. lets say in a post that has been posted in, in the last...5 days. That could also be chosen from inside the admin panel. But also a Random template, FAQ..Control panel..Forum home..etc..etc.. showthread.. those types of things. Then when someone clicks on it They are taken to a Congratualtions screen, and there is a Auto Thread generated in the forum of your choice and a PM sent to teh Administrators to give out the necessary reward. :) The image might not look nice just smacked into a template, so maybe it should just appear in one of the corners, like bottom right or left.

Perhaps also, It can tell you in teh admin panel where the image was placed, so you can give HINTS to where its located after a certain ammount of time like a real scavenger hunt. :)

So how is this going? Anxious to see how you are doing.

Of course. Its a pain to do this manually.. plus might be more fun to make it faster to use. :) Hide n' Seek doesnt really make sense unless board members are hiding. I vote on Scavaneger HUNT! lol

i originally called is scavenger hunt but i spose i could change it back!

The idea i am currently working on is that you hide about 20 items(image links) , either within your own site or get your members to add it to their site.

when anybody clicks on the item it takes them to the item list on your forum, this item list will highlight the items that have been found and no highlight others that the member is still looking for.

a top 10 list will show the members with the most found amount of items

there will be lots more to it but its still under construction

I'm extremely intrested!!!!! I want this bad my members were looking something like this for halloween, ya know, trick or treat, but this sounds better cause you can do it a lot :) this is great. I can't wait :)

This is what I am thinking. Just my wishes.

I like the idea of putting a certain # of images randomly around the site. And I like the idea of letting members collect them. By collect them I mean have a page that has the all the collectible images on it and highlight the ones they have collected. I think there should be a time limit set for the amount of time they have to find the images. This way you can have contests say anyone who finds all 10 images in one week wind (insert prize here)

Also if someone finds a image I think that image should move to another random location so members can't tell each other where the images are once they find them.

Well, I was thinking

Since I have itemshop installed. It would be nice to hide different itemshop items around the boards. If a member finds the item, he/she gets to keep that item. This is especially useful for anyone who has Bitsys RPG hack. That way, members can collect items instead of just buying them

The items should be randomly scattered around for each member. They shouldn't be "set" on one page

I've done something similiar to this kind of scavenger hunt before when I used to run UBB (I had one for an easter egg hunt, of which i tediously had to add the images manually then manually delete the image from the threads after it was done it wasn't fun!) so would love to see this in a more automated way!

This would have been a fun thing to have had on a forum... but it seems like its been so long since any information had been updated or supplied that im thinking atleast for now anyways ...its not happening folks

I would install this, but make it for 3.5.0 please instead.
