7,900 Members in 3 months...Yeah !

My site has been up since Early December 2002. I started out using postnuke and Invision Board. Feb 14th I had 4,000 members on the forums when I converted to VB, Now less than a month later - 7,900 + members. ( I also deleted 800 members who had not verified email )

We are also using vbPortal. I love it ! Thanks to all of you for helping me learn a bit about vb so this tranformation was almost seemless.

corsacrazy 03-09-2003 03:24 PM

wots ur url ? wots the site about ?how the [censored - try to be smart with spelling to get around our censors, and you will be banned - Erwin] did u get that many members ?

cleck673 03-09-2003 03:31 PM

oops... May help to tell the url .... ALso --- If anyone has any suggestions to about the site - I am not open to overhaul - but I am open to simple suggestions. ( I have changed the look too many times already... need to keep it the same a bit...)

The URL : http://www.aximsite.com <-- vbportal Main
: http://www.aximsite.com/boards <-- vBulletin

cleck673 03-09-2003 03:39 PM

Also... I am VERY new to vb, I have used ikonboard for a while and then Invision Board - THis is my 1st time using vBulletin - So any tip/pointers anyone that looks at my site may, feel free to share...

Also - I like this community and vbulletin so much that I have acually bought 3 separate 1 year leases ( will buy a lifetime on the sites that pan out )

Thanks for looking

It looks good but that style is a style wich you can find on alot of vbulletin forums because it's a free style wich can be downloaded.

You have alot of members but not alot of posts, you have an average of 3,8 posts per member. That's very low.

I have currently 2637 members and 210.316 posts, that's an average of 79,8 posts per member. See the difference? :D

You have alot of inactive users.

N9ne 03-09-2003 04:31 PM

How did you get 8000 members in such short time? It's only possible if your site was there before you had forums or something, or your forums are a sequel to a previous site, where the members have all come over...something like that...

It's true what Lesane says there though. I have 3003 members and 152,000 posts, so my average # of posts per user is quite high too :p

However, I've seen a forum which has 900 members and 800 posts =/...

Congrats on the 8000 members in such a short time, however you did it :p

filburt1 03-09-2003 04:40 PM

It may be a high number of members but the ratio of members to posts is relatively low. :(

Dean C 03-09-2003 05:28 PM

Lots of members but i agree that they must be inactive in most cases :(

cleck673 03-09-2003 05:56 PM

Yep. I see the point about post per user....

- The site is a support type site for the Dell Axim handheld users.
- Most users hang around a week or so till they figure out all they needed to know. ( Explains the inactive users )
- The way I got so many so fast. Dell refers folks to the site for support to answers that can't answer. It was the 1st and pretty much the only site dedicated to this product.

The template aside(which has been modified a bit, but is a freely downloaded style) - Any suggestions regarding the layout of the forums. Hack suggestions I should implement?

Also, when a user clicks on last post, It goes to the top of the last page.... I think this template left something out.

Thanks

joelrotunda85 03-09-2003 06:44 PM

Great site but I have to say I got a very large laugh out of the fact that your ad in the upper left hand corner still has that guy from Dell that got arrested for drug possession.

Dude! I am getting a cell! :)

p0wered 03-09-2003 10:42 PM

My site only has 260 some members, with 30 000 posts, only a small fraction are actually active every day, til we establish the new Site project we are undergoing, we wills tay at that number of actual posters per day.

Link14716 03-09-2003 10:48 PM

By now I am about to delete all of my inactive members, I have 121 members and 1,006 posts.

Damnit, how in the hell are you supposed to make a board active? I think my site has been put under an inactive curse or something...

p0wered 03-09-2003 10:53 PM

My board had a huge post increase in the month of february, made over 10, 000 posts + March is so slow :-/ We can't help it, it all depends on your members.

joelrotunda85 03-09-2003 10:55 PM

I got 25,228 posts with 178 members. Something around 141 posts per user :).

p0wered 03-09-2003 11:09 PM

Uh huh many of my users have over 1000 posts, and small sum of them over hundred, majority of my members are inactive. I would say about only up to 90 members contributed to 30 000 posts. These are loyal members who followed us from ezboard to ubb to phpbb and lastly to vB.

Link14716 03-09-2003 11:15 PM

ONLY?!?! You expect more members to get 30,000 posts?!?!?! For the love of god, I think only 3 of my members has over 100 posts, none has more than 200.

p0wered 03-10-2003 12:13 AM

I would expect that more members who are active would get 30 000 posts in total faster than the amount right now.

zootsuit 03-10-2003 12:25 AM

We have around 950 members and over 100,000 posts so an average of 110 posts per member. Not too bad.

Shame only a fraction actually post though...

midnightz 03-10-2003 12:51 AM

We are about three months old and we get about a 125 new peeps every week. We slowly saw the users start increasing and then some of the newbies and regulars joined in.

We are a Free avatar and sig host for forums so, people come and upload and go on but a growing number have taken into the forums and made it really a great hobby.

Now if I could get the Pet Store hack to work, I could turn back on the board.

~ where did I put that beer ~

The judge of how active a forum is, would not be the total number of members (which can be easily spoofed), but the number of active users online at once, and the number of posts.

Tony G 03-10-2003 09:03 AM

Congrats on such quick success. :)

cleck673 01-04-2004 05:33 PM

Update: 1 year online now.

37,157 Members
211,032 Posts
150-200 average users online

We still have a real low ratio, but many come, post and learn what they need and leave for a while. The community is more of a support type site that a chatting site.

Thanks to vBulletin.com for making this great forum package and .org for having great coders around to write nice hacks to make it better!

MaDCaT75 01-04-2004 05:40 PM

Once Sims 2 comes out pepole will look for a sims 2 forum muahahaha

cleck673 01-04-2004 06:03 PM

PS. and finally, after a year, I am working on a new layout. Any thoughts. The theme is based on a paid for theme that will only act as a shell for what it will become. I am not a "great" graphics person, but I think it is looking fairly good. (can't be too graphic intensive since I get 2 million hits/mo... need to conserve BW)

ok well i have Members: 845, Threads: 11,989, Posts: 149,668 and i love it, my board is growing all the time, i've got a script running that deletes Users Awaiting Confirmation and everything, i have a feeling that i will easily have 10x my current member count by next year this time :)

with your site, it's bound to do great as it's so topic specific, now you just have to get them active and excited about the Dell Axim ;)
