Papi

For those of you who I know were cackling the whole time I put 700 lines of code in the eval'ed phpinclude template, well looky at this: http://www.vbulletintemplates.com/mo...8560#post28560

[high]* filburt1 ups the stakes on the hacking/mod'ing debate :D[/high]

The fact that you need to upload a papi.php file means that this is more a hack rather than a template mod. ;)

So it belongs here in vB.org really... :)

Chris Gwynne 03-06-2003 01:23 AM

lol Erwin ;)

filburt1 03-06-2003 01:24 AM

SD said that uploading PHP files is fine :p

The rules at vBt are, as long as it dosent edit any of vBulletins php files its fine. We have alot of modifications over there that require you to upload php files or run querys ;).

Erwin 03-06-2003 02:23 AM

I see... well, there is overlap with the rules here then. :)

Mmm... quite a few of my hacks can go to vBT then... like my Flash Player for example... :)

Tony G 03-06-2003 04:00 AM

Even though you can do that, a traditional template mod wouldn't allow it. ;)

Keep tp tradition. :p

Well, we do some much with phpinclude and papi now that a query on the database is sometimes needed. :). Alot of my hacks go to vBt to, it really all depends on whats best for the feture you are trying to add ;). Filburt wrote a nice aritcal on phpinclude. you can view it here:

Bah, i'll stick to vb.org if it's something that can't be done by just editing a template...vBt has personally been hijacked and PAPI'd...:p

Dean C 03-06-2003 03:41 PM

Ridiculous concept if you ask me. Good idea but anything that is php related isn't a template mod for me...

filburt1 03-06-2003 06:29 PM

It can be used in hacking now that it's a separate file. It just takes template mod'ing to an extreme new level.

I agree with that sentiment. :) Otherwise, a lot of the hacks here can be classified as template mods as well.

Dean C 03-06-2003 06:51 PM

Exactly Erwin. "If" the day comes here when vbt ideas move over to vbulletin.org - well let's just say i'll be displeased :)

a *template* mod is just that.. anything that has to do with php files is a hack, in my opinion.

My gosh.. this is completely off-topic (as if anything by Filburt is ontopic ;) ), but I just noticed your name was "Filburt1" and not simply "Filburt." MY GOD! That's... so... so.. so stupefying I can't even think of the words to describe it!

Very long story short but I was forced to have the one.

I don't know what you and everybody else are so hyped up about. PAPI 1.0.5 and earlier is 100% template based. A significant number (not a majority) of the hacks here are really more convenient to mod rather than edit the files themselves.

But each to his own :)

Tony G 03-07-2003 08:47 AM

Yes, papi is one unique system I admit that. ;)
