Mobiles meet vB
just curious with the rise in mobile browsers, how hard would it be to make vB WAP Browsable?
i saw someone talking about sms pm's which would be really great but i was thinking about the whole forums being browsable on your mobile. would this be hard? or is it a unrealistic feat for vB? could vB have suprised us and it be available for vB3 as standard? |
Theoretically it's as simple as making a new style set. However that would basically mean redoing virtually every single template so good luck with that.
|
Or installing one of the Archive Hacks, and modifying it very slightly to make users able to post.
|
yes, a combination of the archive hacks with the quickreply feature would be perfect i think :)
shouldn't be to hard |
^^Do it then:p:D
Btw - I'm serious:D I'd love to surf forums on my mobile:p Satan |
This is something that has been requested by some of my users and I will be implementing when talkloud goes to vb3.
I actually think its pretty stupid, but its a challenge. :) |
It's been done by someone using Overgrow's hack for PDAs...

but PDAs can browse all websites!
|
No, something that is optimized for PDAs - minimal graphics etc.
|
yeah that's true, with wap it needs to be in .wml format
|
Did anyone ever do this? I've got a site that I'm in the process of moving from phpBB to vBulletin, and I guess I had been given some bad information that there was a PDA template available for vB. My entire site today has a PDA version and my users are not going to be happy if I take it away.... I've searched and haven't found anything existent except for a French site. My PDA version of the site is currently here...
http://pdaphonehome.com/phpBB2/portalpda.php By following the forum link, you'll get to the heart of the forums. I use this constantly, and many other users do too. There is a feature that shows you the threads updated since your last visit. I am in that multiple times a day. This is a show stopper for my migration to vBulletin if I can't fix to. Being new to vBulletin, it would take me a long time to figure this out on my own. |
