Question about hosting.

I'm pretty new to all of this, so any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated at this point. Well, I don't exactly have a paid host and all I'd like to do is set-up a vBulletin to twink around a bit and learn some stuff about style sets. I was wondering if it'd be possible to host it on my IP and manage it from there?

If so, how would I go about doing it? What software would I need?

You don't have a paid host? But you run Yahoo!, at least according to your profile...

I think he put that there just because Yahoo is his Homepage. Just like MSN is mine. ;)

LMAO heh he must be REALLY new to vBulletin. Well welcome here I can get you hooked up with some cheap hosting. My hosting is www.lenzmultimedia.com and they are pretty good.

Skills on Deck, to download hacks and get support you will need to go to this page and enter your email address, to show you are licensed. (you will need to use your customer number and password to access that page)
Thank you.

just curious, but do mods say that to ALL unlicensed members or only ones that they think are trying to run illegal vb's or something?

i thought this guy was saying in the future he wanted to run a vb and right now he wanted to know how to set up a host on his ip?

From what I was told at vB.org it's a hack added to the reply form that shows up for unlicensed members and they only reply when they get support questions. Personally I think they should use a bot or something...

oh ok...it's just this guy barely mentioned vb, only that he was interested in settin up a server...but ok...

i agree,.. i mean he/she is not even asking for hacks.. maybe he/she doesn't have vb yet, but might purchase it..

its a good thing mods don't get paid around here, ... ;)

I haven't purchased a vBulletin liscense yet, I'm just asking if it's possible to host the board off my IP address and if so what software I need?

I'm on a broadband, but then again I'm not hosting a public board. Just a private one I can twink around with.

You'd need vBulletin. Buy it and the answer shall come :)

Yes, it's possible to host it from home. A couple of members here do this already. There are also instructions on how to do this here too (I think).
