Spiderable Links

Which hack or template mod would you say is the best for Spiderable links, at the moment i'm trying Overgrows Archive hack, but i also want to make the forumdisplay and showthread have flat html files for the url, what do you use, and what do you recomends on using

Xenon 02-14-2003 03:03 PM

hmm, i use mine and skuzzys vB easy archive :).

you can't really say which one is best.

Tecks for example looks best in my eyes, you could nearly replace the normal board with it, but it has a lot of additional things which are loading, so if you just want to spider the pages it has a bit of overweight.

Skuzzy and mine's has just plain text and links without a nice style. it's just informative and fast and does all what a spider needs, but not more...

lol i don't need an archive, i have one, kinda like what Web Design Forums has, on the actual forum, i already have an archive, also i have mod_rewrite enabled on my host, but i don't have access to the http.conf file, trying to find a good spiderable link hack or mod which uses .htaccess has been a real +++++ for me

I like the method posted by filbert1 at vbulletin.com

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...ndex+.htaccess

I like it best because I was able to change just my default style to use it which ended up helping with loading issues. (My serious surfers are paid members and don't use the default style)

It was easy to do, and I was able to add about 5 minutes worth of hacks to smooth out the ruff edges like who's online and multple page threads.

i seen that one, the .htaccess file was removed for some reason though, so i can't add it to my forums :ermm:

I use a highly modified version of fastforwards, which works well, and gets me ranked 1 on all the major search engines for my keywords. :)

Wow your right Erwin :)

I'm impressed. It even indexes your forumdisplay as second *shocked look*

Yup. I have number 1 and 2 on Google. ;)

ULTIMATESSJ 02-15-2003 02:14 PM

any chance of someone releasing another one then, my host won't allow us to alter the http.conf file, so without another being released, anyone looking for one of these hacks and doesn't have access to the http.conf file is pretty screwed

I think somebody uploaded it again later in the thread. However, here's mine:

(Mine also has the code to keep that idiot crawler918 out)

Highly modified version makes hack no longer being fastforwards ;)

I guess you won't share this rehack will you? ;)

I have 5,420 links with my slightly customized hack as well as a first place listing on Google for "web design forums" (which is where I get most of my users).

Khashyar 08-09-2003 07:19 PM

filburt...

Thank you for all of your hacks...

1) I noticed when I was reading your thread on vbulletin.com regarding the hack that amykhar mentioned, that there may have been some unresolved glitches in that hack..... It sounds like a great hack-- I just want to make sure that you feel that the glitches had been resolved? If they have been resolved, could you post the latest code either here or on the VB.com thread? Thank you very much, filburt...

2) Also... I just installed your 3 line session.php hack that you mention in another thread.... How much more of an advantage is installing your vb.com listed hack in addition to the session.php hack? How much would each of these hacks add to the ease of Google listing forum posts?

Thanks, filburt...

Hi guys...

Another question...

I am considering installing 2 different vb archiving scripts: VB Easy Archive (which I already have installed), and vbarchive.

Even though the archive pages display slightly differently through these 2 different archive scripts, would Google and/or other search engines consider our forums as spamming if two pages have similar content?

I am considering also installing vbarchive because I installed VB Easy Archive in late June 2003 (1 1/2 months ago) and Google seemed to stop listing my pages at 109 posts about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I am wondering if VB Easy Archive limits the way Google indexes all of VB's forum posts.

I would appreciate other's feedback regarding this.

Thanks,

Khashyar
