What got you into vBulletin?

What made you deside to buy a vBulletin or how were you first introduced to vBulletin?

For me I was looking for some Pokemon stuff (this was a LONG while ago) and happened to find a site called PGamers. I joined there and have been visiting them ever since. Thanks Guichi for making such a great place.

well, the guy i was modding for was using a pirated version which back then i didn't even know what vbulletin was, or php, so i had no idea what it was, just that it worked, i finally moved up the ranks with him and became admin of the board...then one day he got a mail that said he had to take it down or something like that so he bought it and i've been hooked ever since even before he had the legal version...classic story lol :D

I was a member of a large bass forum, and got really into it, and decided to start my own community, but with a different focus. :)

Same as me, I was late to realise it though.

Lets see... I started using Discuss (yuck!) back a few years ago before I knew much about what I was doing. As my site started to grow, the fact that Discuss couldn't do something as simple as splitting into multiple pages made me realize I was going to have to find a different board (or keep archiving the posts every other day). I started searching for different forum software and found quite a few that were nice, but most were lacking at least a feature or two that I wanted. Then I stumbled across vBulletin. When I saw the regular interface I was impresseed, then I saw the admin interface and was blown away. :)

I once visited a site for Diablo 2 which used UBB.
They switched over to vb 3 month after my registration there.
I was very active so i became mod and few months later became Admin.
I learnt PHP through vb and decided to buy my own vb for my new net project...

I posted on a music site which ran UBB and i posted a lot and then became mod. When it went down i decided to research forums and came accross vbulletin which was too expensive at the time. So i went with a cheap snitz forum. Then i improved my web-design skills and began working on vb's. Eventually i met a guy who is now a good friend and we decided to make a site together. And it's all worked well since then :)

I was a member at Velocd's forum when he used YaBB. Then he switched to vB, and I loved the differences between the two forums. So a few months later, I got my own vB license, so I could play around with it and practice working with PHP and MySQL.

I stumbled upon a Video Game vB last year, and saw how horribly the Admin treated people...I found a dead site that used vB, and wanted to make it bigger than the previously mentioned site. I became friends with the Admin there, and became an Admin myself. Then he got Ghey, and Deranked me, so I made my own site...Right now, I'm heavily researching MySQL and PHP and how they co-relate to vBulletin, and I'm an aspiring h4x0r myself...

I've become a member of varios sites that use every Forum software package under the sun, vB is definitely the BEST of the bunch...And worth every penny ;) http://www.gqforums.com/2.gif

I saw mention of it on the UBB forums. So thought I would check it out :)

It was either vB or UBB, and I had never used either in the past, so I had no way of really knowing which was better. I liked how vB had a working live demo that I could check out. That was good. Then I compared some vB forums to UBB forums and it just seemed like vB was better. I emailed vB asking which one was better (LOL!) and got a reply from Steve Machol. He said that he had switched over from UBB and it was the best decision he made for his board. Well I checked out some more boards, this board included and then one day went out (ok, got on my computer) and ordered a license. And let me just say that it was worth every penny. I could not be happier with my decision to go with vB. Aside from the very important lesson I learned early on... (which is BACK UP before every hack!) :ermm: aside from that, it's all been great. :) Now to look into this 3.0 thing...

Well...

My first encounter with a vB board was CDV's (The Game Developing Company who brought out Sudden Strike and Cossacks) boards...I registered there in about February 2001...

After that, I became friends with a few members, and I decided to join their EzBoard, and became an Admin...Back then, it was Squad600...Alot of members from CDV joined, and we eventually branched out...After a case with hackers destroying the board, Squad600 decided that they would try and re-build...One of the members went and got a UBB Board on a server, and got everyone from Squad600 to join...We then built up a massive community...I became a Moderator, and then someone who would turn out to be a good friend joined...After a little while of putting up with the Owner's Nazish Regime, he decided that he would bring everyone who was attacked by the Owner for whatever reason, to his own vB Board that he purchased, and I went over and joined after Arkan (the owner) went psycho and de-moted everyone except himself...

After about 2 weeks, Fade (my friend) got an email from Arkan, asking him to come back...Fade refused, saying that his board was going great...2 days later, the server was hacked and the board deleted...That stemmed a large battle between the boards, and I became an Admin at Fade's board...After a few months, and several vB boards and communities later, I began to focus on vBulletin Hacks...I had already registered at vBulletin.org, because Fade kept referring our Webmaster to hacks such as the Quick Reply Box on here...Then our Webmaster went rogue, so I stepped in as the Webmaster, and so I remained right through until 3 weeks after I bought my own vBulletin Licence, got hosting and a Domain Name, and branched out on my own...

And thats my vB saga:p:D

It's embarassing to say, but I was actually using a pirated version of vBulletin up until January 20th. However, my business partner told me that he paid for the license. I got an email from James that said I was using vB illegally, so I investigated, fired my business partner, and banned his IP. I thought, instead of just removing the software that my members love, why not just buy it? Thats how I got into vB.
