VB3 Styles
I am in the process of designing a Version 3.0 for a vbb that I run and we are estimating that the style will be done sometime in March, after we beta test it, etc.
I was wondering how the style design changes from VB2.2.9 to VB3 and how I can accomodate for those changes in my code. It would be grueling to design an entire new style only to find out it doesn't work in the new VB3 interface. BTW, I plan on changing most of the templates as well: Postbit, Forumhome, Forumdisplay, Threadisplay, etc. Any help is appreciated. |
How can you design a style when you don't have access to the vB 3 templates? Especially when these templates aren't even done yet.

I think he was designing a style that he figured would work when the new VB 3 comes out so he could use it for the upgrade. But then found out that it probably wouldn't work because things will be changed on VB 3. So now he's wondering what type of changes will occur and wether or not he should go through with it. I'm pretty sure that's what he ment.

He has it right, I am designing a style for use when VB3 comes out and I don't know if they're is any major change in how the style is done that I should accomodate for in my coding.
Maybe Steve could give us some insight? ;) |
The style will be completely different, you can't design for something you don't have really =/
|
:(
|
and as long as there isn't the restricted beta, noone of us could say how much difference is between vb3 and vb2 templates, just that there are a lot...
|
This is more of a question for Freddie but in another post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...382#post317382) he provided a screenshot of the install converting old VB styles to the new 3.0 style.
If I created it and released it before VB3 was installed could I just update it that way? And how thorough is that process, meaning does it keep the templates, etc? |
Only replacements will be imported. Customized templates will be trashed.
|
Vb3 style will be completely different - and i believe vb2 styles won't be compatible with vb3 so there's no use doing anything with vb2 templates ;)

Wow that sucks. Thanks for all your help!
|
from what i've seen of the beta, i don't actually think it'd be to much effort to convert your template, thing that suck are if like me you're running many many hacks and you're gona have to get all the template mods that go along with them in :-S
|
@sabret00the: From the visual effect of vb3 on vb.com you are right, but you don't see behind the structure.
You can not convert your templates easyl because of this: a) Many templates have been thrown together / deleted and the main reason b) templates are now (AFAIK) language independent, so you wouldn't find any language in the templates, just replacements for the languagepacks... and now tell me how easy it'll be to convert you non lanuage independant templates :) |

but i'm guessing it's the final template set?
oh wel, i guess no one will know till it comes out, hey they got offices in england, lets all go there and demand an official release day :lynchmob: |
<font size="4">THEY'RE NOT DONE WITH THE FINAL APPEARANCE OF VB3</font> whether it be colors or templates.
|
You took the words (but with anger) out of my mouth :p hehe
