vbulletion.com running vers 3

Did l just see that or not :cross-eyed:

I did see it vbulletin ver 3 Beta 1

Xenon 11-22-2002 06:13 PM

you are right ;)

N9ne 11-22-2002 06:22 PM

Please please please pppplease tell me vB.org will not use...i repeat not use vB3...I personally don't like the whole vB3 idea because it isn't so great to me and i just don't like it eh...;)

vBulletin.org should stay with vB 2.2.9 :D

Chris M 11-22-2002 06:34 PM

Indeed:)

2.2.9!:)

Satan

Jethro 11-22-2002 06:36 PM

What's wrong with 3? Looks totally awesome to me...

Xenon 11-22-2002 06:36 PM

i'm sure vb.org will use vb3, when it's finished

but it'll take a while, because here must be much hacks in ;)
also some feature should change like the good QR here instead of the creapy one on vb.com ;)

Chris M 11-22-2002 06:43 PM

Lol...

As long as we get the "vB.org" style;)

Satan

N9ne 11-22-2002 07:59 PM

No...just the style won't cut it :(

dotagious 11-23-2002 12:18 AM

Most betas are crappy. You may want to wait until it's finished before coming to a conclusion.

If Firefly disables thread view, the QR box in vB3 will work the same as it is now, without the extra click. You only need the extra click for threaded view to work.

Brad 11-23-2002 02:35 AM

If its installed here i hope we dont have the threaded/hybrid mode on, i reall hate them :/

Xenon 11-23-2002 09:55 AM

Erwin, i know about the facts ;)
but i hate the threaded mode, and i think it slows down the fast way of quick replying...

N9ne 11-23-2002 10:13 AM

threaded mode: Most people hate it...I guess they just wanted more features :-/

I honestly can't say my liking to vB3 will change much when the proper style is released, I could re-create the style on a vB2.2.x anyway, so that isn't the point.

Chris M 11-23-2002 10:25 AM

vB3 would be better without the introduction of Threaded View;)

No Offence to vB, but it makes it look like a cheap E-Fed type of Messageboard...

No, threaded mode has been requested very often, but they thought the majority likes it, this isn't right.
just a part likes it and has requested it. making it the normal behavour and annoy the users like us who don't like it, isn't a good behaviour i think, but perhaps it's just because i don't like it ;)

If they just wanted to add more features there are enough hacks around here.
so you can't say. they wanted to include things which very much people like. Hey, nobodys perfect ;) (I'm working on it ;))

Chris M 11-23-2002 12:03 PM

Lol...

I only hate it because it looks crummy, and Every E-Fed Roleplay Board out there has a Threaded View:(

Satan

Dean C 11-23-2002 04:04 PM

I can't stand the style currently.. i'll wait to see the new style before i make my judgements :)

I've hated the look of VB3 (sorry VB3 Beta) since i first seen the "pre-shots" ages ago.

I know i won't be upgrading

Jethro 11-23-2002 05:32 PM

Wow some strongly held opinions about it. We are upgrading as soon as released, and hopefully it will be released by the time our third board is underway.

Anyone know if that shared forum between multi-boards is included at this stage, or did l just get the idea from some one wanting it to be :ermm:

Littlebit 11-23-2002 05:57 PM

I'm almost positive Firefly will upgrade to vB3 only because somewhere he had said he wasn't doing anymore hacks until vB3 was released...and I don't think I've seen any hacks from firefly lately for 2.2.9.

Rose 11-23-2002 06:38 PM

I'm looking forward to vB3. I don't like the current way it's set up, but all things vB can be customized. And I'd imagine there's a nice lil' way to turn off "threaded" so that members won't even know it was available.

With a bit of colors and customizing, new style, a few hacks - it should be good to go.

however, I'm not planning on upgrading my board for quite some time. I want to 'play' with vB3 before making any solid conclusions.

NTLDR 11-23-2002 07:13 PM

I really don't like threaded hybrid view either, but as Xenon said many people reuested it and that feature allows Jelsoft to gain customers who may otherwise choose UBB or a alternative with threaded view support.

I really hate the current style and am looking forward to seeing the final style for vB3 however I'm 99.9% sure that I will never upgrade to vB3 and will stick with the final build of vB2.2.x, its just to much work for me to convert and for no real gain that I know of (yet ;)).

Chris M 11-23-2002 07:24 PM

Exactly my stance:)

Satan

diettalk 11-24-2002 12:52 AM

Well.. I have to say that the style has a bit to be desired but as they said.. its not finished.. so I won't judge. While I particularly don't like threaded, I will offer it to my visitors because they may. What I don't like is the having to click on an icon to use quick reply.

I will probably upgrade after a couple of months... just so I won't get into the "upgrade" of the week issues... plus I use phpportal, so I will have to wait for an upgrade from them as well.

wolfe 11-25-2002 01:59 PM

i think vB 3 looks awesome and i can't wait till i can download the full version :D

also vB.org uses vB 2.2.8 lol

N9ne 11-25-2002 05:26 PM

What I am going to do however is setup a vB3 on localhost, and make hacks for it, and then release them ;) [I'll know more PHP by the time vB3 is released in Q2 2003 [my guess]]

Dean C 11-25-2002 06:07 PM

Im having problems setting up a locahlost on my machine

TECK's tut dont work for me no more :(

Regs 11-25-2002 06:23 PM

Mist,

Try the bundle from here:

http://www.firepages.com.au/devindex.htm

It really is simple... I've had no problems setting it up on Win98 and WinXP systems.

Cheers,

~Regs.

N9ne 11-25-2002 07:14 PM

I've got phpdev423 installes n it works fine.

Dave# 11-25-2002 07:30 PM

I meant you better be sure you patch your VB

I'd be far more sorry if I install vB3, which will have far more bugs and security holes due to it being "new" software. I update all security and other related bug fixes as there are found.

Plus who's going to be trying to find new exploits on vB2 when vB3 has just come out? Any serious hackers will be working on trying to find expoits in vB3.

Sebastian 11-26-2002 08:54 PM

I don't like half the crap on vb3.. eww, that QR box with all that JS stuff, it's *icky* ... I will end up hacking the sob to death once it comes out... eww, that threaded mode stuff, eww.. the horror... gives me the creeps ;)

what upsets me is half the other stuff people requested didn't get added, like multiple attachments!!! WE WANT USEFUL COOL FEATURES.... NOT DUMB THINGS LIKE THREADED MODE!!! :ermm:

Erwin 11-26-2002 09:21 PM

LOL! True, if I wanted threaded, I would get wwwboard or something like that.

Steve Machol 11-26-2002 11:33 PM

FWIW threaded mode was one of the most requested features I've ever seen. Personally I don't care for threaded view, but just because you and I don't want it doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of people that do.

Sebastian 11-27-2002 12:54 AM

so was multiple attachments, and it wasn't implemented :ermm:
there were a lot of other requested things, more so than, eww, I can't even say it thr*ad*d mo*e.

what about a spell checker that actually works, like when previewing a post..

Steve Machol 11-27-2002 02:30 AM

I'm not arguing with you. Just pointing out a simple fact. Yes, not all requests made it into vB 3. I have no idea why some made it and some didn't. I do know that I personally saw a LOT more requests for threaded view than I ever saw for multiple attachments.

The fact is that not *everything* can be included. Otherwise the software becomes too bulky and unmanageable. Also some things are better left for hacks since only a small portion of people would ever be interested in them.

Xenon 11-27-2002 11:32 AM

As we see, threaded mode divides the users.

well, it is the most requested feature by one part of the users, and the most hatable thing by another (i think greater part).

as long as we can choose for ourselfe to use it or not, i think it's acceptable. Just one thing: it shouldn't be then standard option in vb, because QR and all other good new(and old) features loose on worth so..

Sebastian 11-27-2002 03:59 PM

in my opinion "a lot of people requested it" could mean a handful, a poll would show the truth on how much more people hate it rather the "hand full" of people that requested it.. you please the handful that requested it, but what about the majority? sure there are ways to disable it, but we rather not have 'bulky' stuff in the code if it's not going to be used..

I wish vbulletin would throw ideas on the table (major additions) and poll them, I know it would be a hassle, but I am talking for bigger addons, then go with the majority rather than the 'handful' when adding big addons.

they are also turning vbulletin from a clean fast forum into java hell with all the javascripts that IN FACT slow and lag pages from loading..

Erwin 11-28-2002 12:30 AM

That's true. vB3 has been optimized from a PHP point of view, but the extra javascripts to keep the threaded, hybrid and quick reply box going does seem to slow thread viewing down.
