Who is going to get HiveMail? (discussion ;)
Well, this will make a nice addition to my site that I work at for sure, they have a nice stable server, with nice active users, and HiveMail is just sweetness.
Go to http://www.hivemail.com for more information and http://demo.hivemail.com for a live demo. I just finished fooling around with the demo, and it really is great, Chen has done an amazing job with it. I am sure the site at which I help out with will by this for sure. The Purchasing has been put online too, so people can get it. Chen has really out done himself with such I nice script, and congrats to him, and everyone who helped him out on the way. Now...what are your thoughts towards this product or..will you get it :-D? -ARunan |
I like it, but will it have a add-on to intergrate it with vbulletin? i dident see it on the site anywhere..now to get the money.
|
I saw it yesterday when I noticed Chen had jumped on the name-changing trend. It looks really really nice :)
|
no thanks :)
|
It looks really nice to me, plenty of people were talking about it over at Yaxay regarding working out a deal with web-hosts, which if possible, ViperHost will use it over Horde and NeoMail (both junk in my opinion).
Chen, you havea done a great job on the script and I wish you luck. I should be contacting you as well regarding the hosting talk over at yaxay as I too am interested in possibly working something out. |
Too much traffik for my board...so, no thanks! ;)
|
I like it:)

I like it, but can't use it now, but perhaps for a next project...
chen, why a screenshot of your mailfolder with mails by me??? ;) |
I like it, but I wont pay an arm and a leg for it ;)
|
So just pay an arm;)

Looks nice, but, there are many free alternatives that can be used.
|
The free altenatives suck however ... I haven't seen anything this powerful/feature loaded.
Couple of questions: 1) Branding? I assume we can customize the front end completely as long as we leave the Copyright info? It does say template based. 2) In line images? I uploaded an attachment (jpg), the program briefly flashed another page which looked to have formatting info, but then vanished... ? 3) Note that hitting Tab after subject line entry does not go into the message body :( |
I would email chen@hivemail.com or even doododaa@hivemail.com I am guessing what every username that doesn't exisit in the database goes to his email anyways
You are alowed to customize the whole look of the whole system, as it is run by templates, as long as the Copyright info is there. |
Thanks...
I'm in contact with him. This looks like the good stuff. I allow my subscribing members email now, but using NeoMail, which obviously lacks big time. The ability in Hive Mail to implement usergroups, tag all outgoing and brand makes it worth the $ IMHO. Now, if it just hooked into the vB db, it would be perfect :) |
It looks good - but I have no need for it
|
yea, I would be curious to see how many would pay for web mail.
|
Unless he changed something from the first test version he ran here, I don't like it. If I am not mistaken it stores all mails in the database, and does not include an option to talk to an IMAP mail server.
of course, this may have changed, and that makes it a different matter alltogheter. |
which forces members to visit your site to get email. ;)
|
it looks very smart, but i am on a shared server so i doubt that we happen... :(
|
damnit its so tempting.....arghhh
|
I'd like to use it, but my users want POP3 access if they're going to pay for webmail and a domain. So I need to look at alternatives, because as far as I know Hivemail uses one POP3 account, not one for each user.
|
Could someone cover the advantages of HiveMail vs. something like IMP? I like the usergroup and template features, but it does cost a lot of money. It's almost as much as vBulletin.
Mark |
Heh, I would if I vBulletin hadn't made me poor lol....
|
I'm already using HiveMail.... my users and I love it! It is certainly packed with alot of wonderful features, and certainly a great addation to any site.

I personally think HiveMail is a high quality product that is a great addition to any website that can cope with the traffic.
It can generate an income revenue also, since you can charge for it, a fee. I'm tired of people complaining about the price that is high etc. Guys, do you know that there are other similarly scripts out there that charge $800 and are only half as good as HiveMail? Let's say this: $180 for one license, then you charge $10/year/member. You only need 18 members and your license is paid. So complaining about the price is stupid. Also the script is well done, and I know Chen used some new PHP techniques to reduce the queries stress on the server and it's tables are judiciously balanced to don't eat much of HD space. From what I heard (website information) HiveMail is a pretty complete package. plus I know Chen and his way around with PHP. So I'm comfortable that he released a quality product, that BTW was tested here for several months... |
Hi there,
I just picked up HiveMail myself a couple of days ago. It works very well and the back end with all the options and templates is great. I'm very happy with it. I think it will work with my site well. Ricoche :bunny: |
I've seen/tested HiveMail throughout the time Chen has been developing it. I guess I was his little guinea pig a couple of times. I was lucky to have that advantage, as the HiveMail site is located on my server (shared with TubeDogg).
I'll be helping with HiveMail whenever I'm needed though. So if you try and get a hold of support, you just may be hearing back from me ;) HiveMail is the best mail script I've ever seen or used for that matter! I love it! |
Teck is right, lets take @mail for example, very bulky, and unorganized script, with bad template management, worth I believe 500$ HiveMail on the other hand is not only 180$ which is very low, but etremly configurable, looks attractive(so if you do not wish to configure the look, the default style is very nice), and is decent on your server. I have used many other similar scripts very hard to manage and install. I have also been one of the 50 or so who have been beta testing the earlier version here at vbulletin.org it is extremly useful, and I can't wait til its put back. I will myself be purchasing it soon as my member-base is a group of people whos age varies and have an interest in the community, this will add to the site alot in more than one way.
|
I don't have my own server, so I won't be able to get it...but I don't even have the money for it anyway, and it isn't much use to me.
It is however a great script and thumbs up to Chen for creating it! |
Hey Chen,
Any plans to make a hack to integrate into vBulletin? :) I love it HiveMail! It beats those crummy neomail and IMP anyday :) I'm tempted to actually get it for my staff (have another $160.00 sitting here from pennies I pick up from the street) Heck, I might offer a nice email service at my site as nakkid recommended :) It would be nice if Chen gave vBulletin holders a discount, but I know it will never happen ;) |
Do I like it: Yes.
Would I buy it: No. Why: The price. Would I download if free: No. Why: I can get services elsewhere. |
That's a very positive attitude you have there Nerds.
