Since non liscence holders can't even pm..

I'm sorry for what I said if you did take it seriously, I really didn't mean for it to be taken that way... you just see so many lines like that in movies I wanted to try it but i guess that wasn't the place..

I still have questions regarding the site, not even hacks that have not been answered yet--

Why has vb.org changed from all access, to all post no attach access, to all no post access?

What's the deal with the whole 'Only liscence holding users can access hacks'

The policy hasn't changed recently that I know of. Why should non-licenced members have access to the hacks? They don't own a board and therefore have no need to access them.

Steve Machol 11-08-2002 04:00 PM

The policy hasn't changed. Only validated license holders have access to hacks and downloads from this forum.

Lunatic 11-09-2002 02:38 PM

Yeah.. It's kinda sad that licensed vB's can be bought as re-sellers and still you have no access. I'll just wait for vB's word on it..

Xenon 11-09-2002 02:52 PM

Well it's the policy of vb.org just to give support to those which are approved to have a valid licence..

btw. If you are a legal vb-user, why don't you enter your homepageinfos here?

Link14716 11-09-2002 03:20 PM

Because he's not sure if it is legal or if his host is filling his mind with a load of bull++++.

Scott MacVicar 11-09-2002 03:29 PM

You can get vBulletin resellers? Thats the first time I've heard of it, you should be issued a customer number / password with each customer.

Xenon 11-09-2002 03:34 PM

as i know that are kind of hosting companies, which have multiple user licences...
they provied a full and stand alone vb installation.

i was an admin of a board of such a company some time ago, and what i know, they had handled this out with jelsoft...

rockergrrl 11-10-2002 12:44 PM

A LOT of people are buying licenses in bulk -- and using the affiliate program on top of it, sell them at cost, and then distributing the licenses to each person.

But there have been lots of people that buy the licenses and don't contact vB to switch over ownership to the buyee -- they've been keeping it in their own member's area, etc.

Do you mean putting php code in an announcement in a forum? No. You can use HTML if you enabled it.

Altarion 11-13-2002 01:04 PM

Yes, that's what I mean. And so you don't jump on me for not having a liscence # yet it's for www.gameadvice.com. is there a hack that would allow that?

]From vB.com::
"Not without hacking."

Is there a hack that can do that?

Erwin 11-13-2002 05:59 PM

PHP in announcements? No.

Lunatic 11-18-2002 06:04 PM

Hmmm.. I would ask jelsoft about tit but if we do come out wrong in this they ma want to cease our Boards. So I'll hold out until I find out exactly what's going on because I did buy a vB as a re-seller.

Erwin 11-18-2002 09:23 PM

I agree that you better check. You are also coming up here as being unlicensed, Lunatic.

Mike11212 11-19-2002 03:54 AM

I was told that Jelsoft doesn't offer support for hacked boards. But I was also told that since we need a validated license to access the hacks we are basically paying to access this site and there for there suppose to offer support.

Is that true? Or have I heard wrong

That is correct. You will not get support for a hacked board from their support staff, or from vbulletin.com. By hacking the software, you cannot expect vB staff to be able to support it.

Support for hacked boards and hacks can be obtained here at vbulletin.org - which is an "unofficial" support site. You are asked to validate your license on this site because we want to make sure that you are a valid license owner - as only someone who has paid for a vB license can use vB.

You are not paying to access this site - you are paying to use vBulletin - and we are checking to make sure that you have paid to use your vBulletin - there is a big difference. :)

Lunatic 11-19-2002 08:35 PM

I did pay to access this site. I stated clearly it was a re-seller which I bought, but yet to recieve a license or license validation. If I bought it, I should have a license and be able to come here but I don't know what the [obscenity removed - nice try using vBCode to get around the censor] is going on right now. If I e-mail Jelsoft, will they reply or ignore?

Xenon 11-19-2002 08:50 PM

Sure Jelsoft will reply, if you'll write an email.

2 X Viverridae 11-19-2002 08:55 PM

Umm, well, ++++ - I'd merely email Jelsoft and ask! What Xenon is trying to say in his oh-so-polite way is this - if you have a valid license number, and you enter it and set up account members here, The Jelsoft staff and mods/admin here can see that you are licensed - if you aren't sure about the process email them - but if you don't enter the info, they have NO POSSIBLE IDEA who you are; you could be the 16 year old kid down the block....

Xenon 11-19-2002 09:12 PM

Viverridae: Yes, i was trying to say that, but my way was shorter ;)
Also please recheck your own Account in the Members area.
You are shown up as unlicenced to me

Lunatic 11-19-2002 09:30 PM

Of course I am. I haven't recieved a license yet. That's the point of the topic. Me and Altarion are on the same host which we bought re-seller vB's expecting a license but haven't recieved.

Shouldn't you be contacting the reseller about this? After all you didn't purchase anything from Jelsoft.

Lunatic 11-20-2002 12:33 AM

Sigh.. analyze the topic. We asked here to see what we might expect to see from Jelsoft and if this was something legally done or Illegal.

Steve Machol 11-20-2002 12:36 AM

*Sigh*- and what does your 'reseller' say about the fact that they haven't provided you with a customer number and password? I checked your previous messages and see no mention of this. I still think the first place to ask is the person you gave the money to. It is entirely possible this was illegal. If the 'reseller' refuses to give you this information then this is a good indication that it is.

Erwin 11-20-2002 01:27 AM

The reseller cannot sell you multiple copies of the same vB license like that. Each copy should have its own license number and password. That is my understanding of it.

Sebastian 11-20-2002 02:12 AM

I never heard of a reseller, sounds like their full of it if they didn't/haven't given you a customer number :ermm:

Steve Machol 11-20-2002 03:16 AM

There are some web hosts that buy licenses in quantities and provide them to their customers. However in the cases I'm aware of, they also provide the customer nuimner and password for that license. As I said if a 'reseller' did not supply this info, then it's suspicious to say the least.

I'm also wary of people coming onto these forums who show up as unlicensed and do not provide the URL to their forums.

Lunatic 11-20-2002 11:16 PM

Well, I'll be talking to my Host about this and then Jelsoft. And Steve, I think the main reason they wouldn't is obvious, but in my case I have an explanation worth even listening to.

Steve Machol 11-20-2002 11:24 PM

Good luck! I hope the host was doing this legitimately. It could just be a misunderstanding.

Lunatic 11-21-2002 12:03 AM

Thanks. I hope it is a legal re-seller and I do get a license number cause I don't have that type of cash now. My only hope after that is finding a converter or something.
