login name and display name

Hi,
I'm thinking of upgrading to VB and importing a forum from UBB Classic. As you may know UBB Classic allows users to have separate login and display names. This is kind of useful because login names can be easier to remember and you can save special chars etc just for your displayed name.

Is there a hack for VB to allow these two different names? Otherwise my import won't be much good because people will end up having their login names displayed on posts that used to have their display names on them, could be confusing.

Thanks,
dRiFT

I believe this can be done, or is not done, maybe I will make it.

If there isn't one, please Private Message me with full details (of where the changed display is used, etc)

Thanks

There is a sort of one, in the "BETA" hacks forum...

Unfortunately he never completed it...

Wow, didn't know there was one, this would be a really useful hack, but sometime may get confusing, if people keep changing there display name all the time.

Yeh...

I guess it could be cool for security reasons - Display name does not = username - It could outsmart some hacker-idiots...

Lol..atleast put some trace of the original uername in the profile somewhere, because people changing there display name all the time, it will really honestly get very confusing.

Yeh...

But I meant for Admins - They could choose to hide that in their Profile;)

Maybe allowing this for only people who have a certain number of posts.

This really seems good, but I am having doubts of installing this.

Hmmm...

Perhaps a mixture of the two? The username is displayed on their Profile and in the Posbit, but their Display Name can be changed only after they get 300 posts:)

Possibly, I will try it out :)

Don't worry I will :)

I just had a brain-wave!

Why dont you try and modify that hack that tracks aliases, except make it track Display names!:)

Can you please elaborate?

Thanks

There is a hack in the Full Releases forum which tracks how many times a user changes their username - It is called the "Alias Hack"...

It then displays in their profile all their previous aliases (usernames)...

Perhaps you could modify it to track their Display Names?

The converter will only bring over the members login names and use them everywhere the display names where on ubb. You sould search the full release forums. There is a hack that will allow members to change their user names. The store hack will allow them to do this for a small fee (the store hack comes with a money system).

Display name isn't so important as you can still track users by their unique user id.
