Copy Forum Permissions...
Unfortunately my ZIP program isnt working, so there are a few files;)
[b]Click here to download v1.0 in a Zip File What does this hack do? It allows you to copy Forum permissions from one forum to another... Hack requested by: ladyfyre - here Main coding by: Logician Released & Modified by: hellsatan Credit 90% of the Credit goes to Logician, who coded this himself a while ago... I coded the vBulletin-like Interface to prevent the horrible url stuff, and will be doing updates if need be:) Support Logician does not want to provide support for this hack, hence why I am releasing it...I asked Logician's permission, and he said I could, as long as I make clear that he is not to be contacted for Support issues over this hack, and that he is credited in this thread... The Files: What files should there be? forumper.php forumup.php install.txt 4 screenshots All Support is to be made in this thread ONLY... If you installed this hack, please click INSTALL...Thank you:) Satan |

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to do this :) (no worries with me...i already gave logician his kudos when he did the first part of this...this is SOOOO much easier for me, i wish vb would make it standard *HINT HINT HINT HINT*) |

Thanks for the great hack, once again :) |
I agree, this needs to be standard on vB, only with drop down boxes that have forum listings so you can just select the forums to apply to and apply from.
That would make this hack even more kick @$$. ;) |
@Marshalus - I may try and do that;)
@ladyfyre - Lol...Good job I am under the legal age to, else I might accept;):p Satan |
Hellsatan strikes back :) (Once again)
Thx a lot 4 the Hack, Default Forumpermissions (without any Hacks) are horrible with vB. |
Indeed:)
Lol @ 'hellsatan strikes back':p Satan |
Question: You say once you copy permissions, there's no going back, well this doesn't mean you can't manually change the permissions does it? :p
|
I mean as in - There is no reverse "switch";)
You can of course manually change them;) Satan |
Thanks for the nice CP integration of Logicians code :D
|
umm good hack lol..
If you consider this, here is a thought for the new release: Maybe you can add a new field to CREATE NEW FORUM screen to let you choose the forum you'll inherit its permissions. (At least a text box to enter its id, if you think its hard to compile the list automatically). Also another one can go to "MODIFY FORUM" screen.. These might improve the usage.. I also take a look at the code (it has been a while I coded it and actually I didnt remember it well before checking it out) and I have noticed that as soon as you add the delete query in the begining you can use 1 script for both new forums AND existing forums. 2 codes are redundant (however does not harm either).. Anyway just my 2 cents and thanks for the credits Chris.. |
No problem:)
And thanks for the ideas;) I'll have a look into the "Create Forum + Inherit permissions" thing;) Satan |

:D BTW: just a thought here...i mentioned it a LONG time ago, but no one ever bit....... For many of us, it might prove useful to integrate this hack to allow for setting up custom options "templates".....and then upon creating a new forum, set it to the permissions for the template you want to use. For example, our site has review forums, discussion forums, and ad forums (lots of others, but MOST fall into one of the 3 above). Each has the same set of permissions. So, i could create a "review" template, and upon setting up a new forum, just select that template. That would eliminate those of us with 300+ forums having to wade through a drop down listing of all of them :) Just a thought :) |
Im not sure I follow...
Are you saying that you want a Dropdown Box, like with "Style Sets", for you to select what Forum permissions to use? Satan |
Sounds to me like you are following me just fine :)
|
I see...
I have been thinking about this for quite a while now... I shall give it some more thought then, and see what I can come up with;) Satan |
