Portal System [vGD] *teaser

I am working on a portal system for my friend, this integrates into vb, and when few minor changes it can be made to work as a standalone product.

What is it?
Portal System GD
GD = Graphics Designer
I am making this for a fellow friend who has a graphic site, its more like an online portfolio, but he has been getting alot of attention altly, and he wants to bring it back with a bang.

Anyways, what this does:
- Allows you to Manage News via the New* Admin Panel
- Have a WebLinks section
- Auto Thumbnailing Portfolio
- Featured Artists
- Poll
I really don't know what else is included in a portal.

Anyways, you control this via a new CONTROL Panel that is put in a folder in admin.

See below for screenshots.

Will I release this?
-Maybe it depends, I may or may not release it.

Anyways
give me your feed back

View Link Catagories in Admin

DrkFusion 09-30-2002 06:53 PM

This screenshot is when you click the link [browse] on a catagory, it will take you to a listings of the links inside that catagory, and allows you to see its description, and give you options to delete, rename etc.

DrkFusion 09-30-2002 06:54 PM

I have some other screen shots which are pointless, but these are huge files and take awhile to upload so I won't bother with them, anyways as you can see I only did a bit.

I am focusing mostly on the Web Links, and Poll, and then the Portfolio.

Brad 10-01-2002 05:30 PM

Im waiting, one of the sites i host could really use this, they are looking to move away from .html coding and go into php and this could be really useful :)

Chris M 10-01-2002 06:11 PM

You guys seem to have gotten this a bit wrong...

Im just waiting for Arunan to confirm that what we talked about this weekend is still happening;)

Either way - I doubt very much that Arunan will be releasing this as a FREE hack...It will, if released as a hack, will probably cost a few $...

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 06:31 PM

It i being coded for my friend, he owns a online graphics portfolio. Anyway, he isa very good friend of mine.

I will inform you on when and how it will be released for now, I am looking for feedback :)

Scott MacVicar 10-01-2002 07:22 PM

the control panel looks very similar can't think what from though

g-force2k2 10-01-2002 07:44 PM

umm... actually the control panel is copyright noxmedia.net... so are you just trying to sell someone else's product with a news addon and links addon? if so i would definately advise against it... i'd be ticked if this were my work that was being ripped... especially if you're trying to make a profit off of it... regards...

g-force2k2

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 07:56 PM

No this is an addon for vbulletin.

Don't worry no profit for me, but it uses the cp.css and replaces colours, but it uses cp.css from the forum root none the less, the admin of vbulletin uses the original colours though.

Nothing is actually being ripped here, its all my work, if you check the admin panel script, all it uses is vbulletin cp.css, but the html is all mine, I am willing to show you the admin index.php if you wish. The style may look the same but I've actually setup the frames differently from the vbulletin one, and it uses my own function to make tables, bu at the moment my functions are not working, o I am using good ol html to make my nav name and so.

Rest asured it may look like vbulletin's admin panel, but it has nothing of vbulletin coding.

This is being made for my friend only. No cash involved, I am going to use it for myself, but with alot of modifications.

Anyways, hope you have enough information.

I don't know how you can say this is ripped, I think it is more acceptable if you try to research some facts, the best thing would be to message me, and talk to me about it, and ask me to prove that its not ripped very kindly, but you don't do that, just because it looks like vbulletin admin panel, the scripting, and, basically everything is a rip.

I wonder how I am selling someone elses product, the code is actually put together by me, icons and template design by me and a friend, and image by me. It doesn't even use vbulletins template system, it uses files instead of the database.

I can assure you that this was never someone elses product, I did this from scratch, and if you do not believe me, I guess you have to live with that, mainly because I know that I spent countless hours coding this with no bugs for my good friends, and someone seems to think I plan to sell this that was ripped.

When thinking about it basically nothing of this is ripped.

I can't blame you for thinking, maybe I should of put some information on how this works, and differences in performance, and ways of performance.

Anyways, I hope you understand that, I never intend to ripp anyones product, and very likly I never will.

-Arunan

Edit:
If you plan to ask me for proof, I would really appreciate it if you would aim me, and ask me politly, I have learned my lesson not to start discussions here anymore about anything. Now I wonder why hackers do not post hacks much or talk much....ummmm

Good Day

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 08:06 PM

Also I expect a reply from you two, I will continue to bump this til I receive a decent reply from you, either sticking with the fact I ripped or other.

-Arunan

Note to the above post.
Also if I do decide to make profit off something I worked on, I don't think what you say will make an affect on it. Mainly becaue I know how much I worked on this. You accusitions are not really needed. Sure the admin panel may look same, but I can easily modify it, I don't need to make it look like vbulletin, I did that because this was a addon for vbulletin.

I am really upset about this, you being a coder yourself I know for sure wouldn't be pleased if I had replied to your discussion thread of a modification and started calling you a ripper and making acussitions.

Also do not reply to this saying that you didn't call me a ripper directly, because I well know that you intended to send that message out.

all you had to do was say that you were noxmedia.net... and that would have been suffice... don't know why you went off writing three posts when saying you were in fact noxmedia.net would have solved the problem... if i knew that then i wouldn't have stated you ripped it ;) hence my quote... so in that case i apologize because i didn't know you were noxmedia ;) if you would have just picked that part up it would have solved the issue... again my apologies for overlooking that point ;) and no i never stated it was a 'rip of vbulletin' you made that up yourself... you assumed that i said you ripped vbulletin when in actuality i was stated you ripped your own work :p (again refferring to my quote) anyways hope that settles that... regards... and nice work with the whole project ;)

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 09:13 PM

Umm, now I feel kind of wierd now.

In reply to the ripping of vbulletin, it was a reply to PPN's.

I instantly thought you said I ripped it because with other projects people say I ripp, and accuse me of this and that, yet they cannot prove it to me, even when I prove to them I have not ripped.

Also yes I do own noxmedia.net

But I have decided to stop making hacks, due to the fact some others say that my hacks suck, so I removed them all except from my first 3 hacks, which I truly think sucked.

Sorry for misunderstanding, I hope you can understand, from stuff that have happend to me, I really get ticked quickly at key words that have been used against me in the past.

Thanks for the comment.

I'm sorry that users have made comments like that :( You have produced some very good hacks recently, like the vB Image Gallery. Its ashame that some members are just out to ruin things for others.

I actually understand now why AfterLab left, but he left for a very completly different reason, more like opposite of mine, though there is a relation none the less.

Though I may be releasing simple but useful little mods here and there, though I am not that, I gues it will help me to improve my Skill.

Also please excuse all words with our S, my keyboard doesn't work properly.

Scott MacVicar 10-01-2002 09:33 PM

Arunan, before you jump on your high horse and go off at some tangent because you think everyone is out to get you, at least take into consideration what you said in your first post.

your saying that it could become a standalone product and use vBulletins admin panel system? And before you say that you implied this by the few minor changes, changing the entire admin panel is obviously more than a few minor changes.

Scott

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 09:38 PM

All it uses is vbulletin global for permissions, and the admin function.

I also stated that I was working on my own functions, so that it can be seperated from the vbulletin ones.

The admin panel doesn't use vbulletins maketable functions etc, I have it using normal html, because I know that many big changes have to be made to be used without vbulletin.

I have taken it all into account when I made this, to make it work without vbulletin, all you have to do, is replace the code require("global.php"); with admin_gobal.php which has code to connect to the database, and has settings information. I may be new to php, but I have learned to take all things into account when making something.

Sure it may not be as organized like vbulletin, but it does need vbulletins admin files.

I just looked back at the code, it uses basically nothing of vb, except the global and the cp.css, and the vb settings, table which can be easily modified.

Again it does not use vBulletin Admin Panel System, if you want proof I will show you the setup of the code in it, its way different, including the html itself.

Scott MacVicar 10-01-2002 09:43 PM

I'll take your word, but the admin panel looks identical in layout from your first screenshot which was the only one i looked at. The same sort of general navigation on left version on top bar, then the way the links were organised and the way the header looked.

The second screenshot then looked exactly like one of the vBulletin option screens. It doesnt matter if your not using the functions, but if your using the html that the functions would generate.

DrkFusion 10-01-2002 09:46 PM

Yes it does look identical, I did that thinking it would be logical since it would be a addon for vbulletin, but if i release a standalone script, I will gladly change the layout of the admin panel if you have doubts. Again you are welcome check out my index.php just message me on AIM.

DrkFusion-

So, whats the deal? Are you not releasing this hack, releasing it as a free hack, or as a paid hack. I am very interested.....

Goldknight 10-02-2002 04:34 AM

chance of release it as commerical is 99.999999999999999999999 percent so it is predictable :)

Neo 10-02-2002 04:37 AM

Pretty Cool... now all we need is a portal for portals o.O

DrkFusion 10-02-2002 11:17 AM

I may code a standard portal with a built in gallery and such, I am also thinking of porting in a webmail feature, which allows your members have an email at your domain.

Well Anyways, I won't be releasing hacks here anymore, but I will possibly release stuff at my site or something like phpportals.com.
Please don't take my word on anything, Im very confused right now.

-Arunan

Goldknight 10-02-2002 03:24 PM

*shrug* ok good luck ;) For once, I wish I m not surprise by this.. oh well *shrug*

Guess I ll release my hack soon then, I have been spend a month on it. It is similiar to yours but I add some like download/upload system, articles, reviews, news, news comments, review news, links, links rate, bookmarks, bookmarks rates, and few. It is not standalone though like yours..

DrkFusion 10-02-2002 06:10 PM

Cool, though I didn't say I won't realease mine, but yours seems promising, if you need help just holler :)

-Arunan

Goldknight 10-02-2002 06:42 PM

Actually if you plan to release then I ll drop this project. I dont want any kind of competition with you. If you release then I will use yours.

If not then I will ask you for some help if need ^_^ but ofc it is free hack, not commerical so up to you actually.

Scott MacVicar 10-02-2002 09:37 PM

My own system is standalone but it does incorporate some vBulletin features mainly cause I wrote it for me, its a CMS though and not a portal as such.

I've still to finish the frontend though :)
