2.2.8 is out!

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...threadid=55437

Just when you thought 2.2.7 was the last one before 3.0... ;)

It's still RC, so I'm going to wait until it becomes gold before I upgrade.

Erwin 09-25-2002 03:05 AM

Since I'm sick with gastro, and am sitting at home, I thought I might as well upgrade because I have time.

A tip for those upgrading:

Read John's description of changes to each file. Some of the changes are not necessary. Also, some of the changes listed are already in the vB.com vb2 Bugs forum so you can do that manually. He also included my fix to auto-unsubscribe banned members in 2.2.8 (albeit a mildly different version) :).

This is a very minor upgrade from 2.2.7, and shouldn't take too long.

TECK 09-25-2002 03:12 AM

hehehe.. i almost finishied my superhacked forum..
geeeeeeeeeeeee..

[high]* TECK is hitting his head against the wall...
[/high]
actually araxis merge will see the diff in exacly 2mins.. :)

Erwin 09-25-2002 03:13 AM

Most of us who follow the vB.com vB2 bug forums would have some of the upgrade changes installed already.

Read John's description of the changes in each file, so you know where to look with Araxis Merge. It's usually only 1 or 2 lines of difference in each file - quite easy to do. I am doing that right now...

TECK 09-25-2002 03:28 AM

i'm just gonna do a an araxis merge between the default 227 and 228, so i see exacly where is the diff. :)
thanks for letting me know Erwin... the funny part is i always findout from you that there is a new version.. hehe.
however, look at the pic.. you cant miss it... the prob is that i almost never go to this page while working on my localhost.

instead of the admin cp, i use a little script that updates the templates instantly, isntead of going like crazy to all the templates one by one. so all i have to do is edit the big template.style and bingo.. is updated.

when i will have my forums online, i'm sure it will bealot easier for me to see the updates...

TECK 09-25-2002 03:42 AM

hmm i thought they would be 4-5changes.. there are 25changes in all files...

Erwin 09-25-2002 04:56 AM

Yeah, it took me longer than I thought to upgrade. Took me in total over 2 hours. There are some changes to the way cookies are handled - some of the previous fixes are no longer present.

Everything is working well. :) That's the main thing.

Erwin 09-25-2002 04:56 AM

What's happened to the edit button?

Erwin 09-25-2002 04:57 AM

And the sigs???

ManagerJosh 09-25-2002 05:18 AM

Possibly to the 17 already known problems in vB 2.2.8 forum

I had to halt my site upgrades because of this...Argh!

Just when you thought it was safe to upgrade...
*grumbles*

Erwin 09-25-2002 05:29 AM

I was actually referring to the missing sig and edit button here at vB.org - they're back now. Firefly must have been doing some site maintenance, or installing a new hack.

Actually, 2.2.8 is working fine on my site. The best place to look for confirmed bugs is here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...?s=&forumid=19

Staff at vB will move threads in the Troubleshooting forum to the Bug forum if they confirm the bug.

Xenon 09-25-2002 09:32 AM

have just updated all testboards and running boards to 227, so i'll wait till vb228 is no longer just an RC.

But its nice from the devs to make such upgrades, so hackkers will never be bored *g*

TECK 09-25-2002 12:10 PM

hehe, join the club stefan....
once we are almost done hacking a version... POP another one show up...

Xenon 09-25-2002 01:40 PM

hehe floren i think they just wait until the majority has imported all hacks to a version and then they'll release the next one ;)

that's why they give good support, they want to know how much already upgraded ^^

Chris M 09-25-2002 02:27 PM

Darn it!

Just when I thought about upgrading from 2.2.6 to 2.2.7...

I dont know if I will have time to upgrade to 2.2.8...:(

After reading this thread I have another question about VB. When you upgrade do the hacks for the version that you had before still work? And can you install hacks that were made for earlier versions?

1. No
2. Maybe

ManagerJosh 09-27-2002 08:03 AM

anyone wanna bet when vb 2.2.8 will go gold? I think today or tommorow would be nice :D

I'm putting my money on 9/27

Scott MacVicar 09-27-2002 10:01 AM

damn ;P

give that a boy a cookie.

So who noticed my bad grammar in that announcement with all the changes

Erwin 09-27-2002 12:38 PM

It's gone gold just now.

Changes since the RC release (copied from the 2.2.8 announcement):

Main Directory:

newreply.php; stop users replying to moved thread redirects

showthread.php; stop users replying to moved thread redirects

memberslist.php; sort bug with advanced search lower post limit

Admin Directory:

adminfunctions.php; better handling of characters which will corrupt the settings

functions.php; move security fix from global.php to here

global.php; remove security fix

user.php; checks on post limits when doing a search

Mod Directory:

global.php; remove security fix

Time to upgrade from RC to gold... :sigh:

Brad 09-27-2002 01:11 PM

*pulls out AM*

time to upgrade from 2.2.7 :sigh:

Scott MacVicar 09-27-2002 02:03 PM

Its worth it guys, sorts some very unlikely bugs though :P

ManagerJosh 09-27-2002 05:09 PM

Should have really bet.....cause vBulletin 2.2.8 did go gold on 9/27

Am I psychic or am I just plain lucky :D

Chris M 09-27-2002 05:22 PM

Lucky:)

Satan

ManagerJosh 09-27-2002 05:31 PM

Whatever Satan.....

Xenon 09-27-2002 05:33 PM

Manager i think your sig should also be upgraded ;)

Chris M 09-27-2002 06:47 PM

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of changes from vB 2.2.6 to 2.2.8?

Satan

Xenon 09-27-2002 06:55 PM

hmm, i don't have a list, but you can always use arexis merge or beyon compare to compare original vb226 with vb228

Chris M 09-27-2002 07:19 PM

Where would you find those?:)

There are just too many changes to document. 2.2.6 to 2.2.8 has some major bug and security fixes.

Chris M 09-28-2002 06:46 AM

@Erwin - Yeh...

I downloaded Beyond Compare yesterday:)

Ive worked through most of the changes in the root folder, but I am sure there are some mistakes I have made...:(

Unfortunately, I cannot remember downloading vB 2.2.7 from the Members Area, so I couldnt do 2.2.6 to 2.2.7, then 2.2.7 to 2.2.8!

there's a thread of how to upgrade a hacked board with beyond compare/araxis merge in hacking hints and tips forum by floren ;)

Also why upgrade from 226 to 227 and then 228?
just upgrade from 226 to 228

TECK 09-28-2002 09:45 AM

hmm there are quite few changes from v228rc and 228 final.
erwin, you were smart to wait. :)

i will do it me to from now on...

TECK 09-28-2002 09:47 AM

satan, your first name is dominic or chris? i dont remember anymore...
i recommend you to use araxis merge. is sort of expensive but worth every penny for a hacker.

i've decided so since 225 RC - non rc ;)
it really saves time if you have hacked boards ;)

Erwin 09-28-2002 01:07 PM

Actually, I didn't wait, but upgrading from 2.2.8 RC to 2.2.8 only took me 5 minutes, because John in the 2.2.8 vB.com announcement specified exactly what changes were needed.
