vbJrnl - The simpler, more powerful journal system.
vbJrnl
What it does: After installing vbJournal Lite 1.1b, I was very dissatisfied. It was by no means "lite", the default HTML templates were awful, the journal didn't match vBulletin's visual design, and there was a lot of redundant template editing. vbJrnl is a lightweight journal system that piggybacks off vBulletin's forum and thread systems. No screenshot is available BECAUSE vbJrnl looks just like any other of your forums, but functional differences are:
Current Version: 0.9 Future versions are outlined in the text file. If you use this hack, please click install. New versions are coming, and I'd like to let you know about them. Thank you. Have fun, and please comment! |
Lite means that it is almost BETA. And people want screens. BTW, by reading your post, it is a forum? Well, this'd seem an easy hack. I think I may go for vBJournal Lite
|
vB Journal Lite is a way more functional, and it has better features, this is basically just a new forum and it doesn't organize the journals either.
I dunno why you were dissatisfied with vbJournal Lite, this seems dissatisfying more. |
vbJournal Lite is much nicer and can be configured however u want. So no thanks to your "dissatisfied" vbJrnl
|
then don't download it. it is my prerogative to be dissatisfied, and it is my prerogative to release a hack that i believe is better.
now to pick you each apart individually. link: it's a forum, sure...but it is a forum with certain NECESSARY modifications to allow it to serve more as a collection of journals than a forum. as for being easy...i don't believe i ever said otherwise. it just makes more sense, that's all. as a screenshot, there is absolutely no reason. this hack is all about functionality. it LOOKS just like an ordinary forum. DrkFusion: i was dissatisfied because the html code sucks (go ahead, run it through w3c.org :P) and was too much of a hassle to fix. furthermore, it didn't match the style of vBulletin and would not have without extensive modification. joeboo: all i have to say is that vbJrnl is not dissatisfied; its author was. and to all of you...if you don't like the hack, don't install it and don't post in my thread. others' opinions may vary. i didn't leave rude comments (which would have been truthful, btw) in vbJournal's thread, so you can kindly leave your ignorant rude comments out of mine. thank you. |
What the is wrong with all of you? Nick gave his opion about that hack and made another one for users on VB.org have another choice. I tihnk maybe if people here dont have anything intellegent to say they should just DIE. ;)
And for coding standards I myself opted to make my own instead of use the vbJournal Lite. I myself do have standards with coding. |
i appreciate the support neo ;)
on another note...new version - 0.91. this version simply sets up for compatibility for future versions...to upgrade, download the text file again and do steps 4 and 5 |
The more hack options released, the better. I myself run my own custom Journal hack. If you don't want to use it, don't use it. :)
|
I was just saying that I'd prefer vB Journal Lite over this. :)
Good hack though.... |
Isn't vBJournal Lite driven by templates, and therefore, can't one simply change most of the interface by editing templates?
An interesting hack, but I'll stick with vBJ Lite. |

i agree, nick is only releasing anthor sysytem because he dosent like vBjournal lite or at least some parts of it :p, and i have to admit, it has alot of templates to add . im in the same boat with neo, im doing my own journal system, i cant wait on vb journal lite to be upgraded cause i need coments and other fetures i just think arent ganna happen in a release any time soon. |

I just wanted to know how you could be satisfied of it, and I said this seems to me dissatisfying, because well this doesn't really seem like a real journal system, more like new threads, anyways, I didn't want to start ++++ with anyone, but I did, though, I am sorry if you were dissatisfied with my dissatisfied comment of your dissatisfactory opinion. -Arunan |

^-- lol, how old are you now Nick?
It's indeed a simpler Journal system, nice work on that. But i'd stick with VbJournal lite :p (don't get mad, keep smiling  :D) |

Anyway let's end on a good point I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this style of journal. |
Link, Lite doesn't mean it's almost out of beta at all. It helps if you know what you're talking about.
|
Lite will usually mean that the hack has a bigger brother around or on the way and some times the Lites the free version with you having to pay for the Pro version. Generally the Lite version has less functions/abilitys than the Pro version. That a good enough description?
|
I agree with you a little, but vB Journal Lite was just a lite version, and isn't complete yet. That's probably why the templates had glitches.
|
Just like my Vb Image gallery Lite, there had been 3 majopr bugs found, and i am fixing it, and the next version is a more advanced version that is coming out with the release of vb3.
-Arunan |
perhaps i was a bit caustic...i simply intended to convey the reason why i made this hack
Lesane...almost 15 |
I don't know if this question was answered in any of the other replies, but can this version still create private and public journals? From the first post it kinda didn't sound like it, but I felt like I should just double check before I dismiss the hack. Is this feature coming shortly in a newer version?
|
i think it's great you released this, altho i really don't like what you done and i prefer the journal interface etc, theirs stuff that i want from vB journal lite that is taking way to long to get released upgraded, hopefully this will kick the guys who made it up the arse to bring out the features that has been heavily requested
|
Vbjournal lite is exactly what i needed nuthing more nuthing less
the only thing i would probably add is an vbcode interface to the Journal other then that it works fine |
GS, no. This is just a very simple hack that modifies your journals forum so that each thread can only be posted to by the person who created it. It also, if memory serves me correctly, prevents a person from creating multiple threads.

I am realy looking for a good journal......I think the remarks in this thread have been uncalled for and confused me to the point that I dont want to install either of them.......
Can we stop the cat fighting and get on with hacking! Sorry if my comments offend |
