firefly??? i'm worried...

hello again chen,
i just noticed that your announcement made by you a while ago in full releases had the author changed (xenon).
i hope you dont have any wierd ideas in your mind and quit us all, here at VB.org.

you've been a tremendous help for me and also anyone here (i'm sure they all agree) and i personally think this board will be empty without you.
let me know if you are here or you plan on leaving...

Neo 09-07-2002 10:10 PM

I havent seen Chen in a way long time. :(

TECK 09-07-2002 10:14 PM

chen had some family problems. hope that he will be back soon.
DO NOT ABANDON US!!! please dont leave vb.org...

Neo 09-07-2002 10:21 PM

And if not hire us!!!!!

* know about Chen's family issues :(*

filburt1 09-08-2002 02:48 AM

He posted 32 minutes ago at vB.com: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/searc...der=descending

Erwin 09-08-2002 10:14 AM

Xenon updated this announcement ages ago so the author got updated ;)

FleaBag 09-08-2002 11:22 PM

Chill people, Chen isn't the abandoning type. ;)

Xelation 09-09-2002 01:08 AM

hes just doing some jobs thats all, hes spending a lot of time working on the backbend for the yaxay.com site

rockergrrl 09-09-2002 05:42 PM

I've been talking to Chen on ICQ a lot lately, and our conversations have turned a different leaf in the last couple days.

He's shared with me about his concerns for the vBulletin community, and that he doesn't think he belongs here anymore. Possibly even leaving all together and handing vB.org to someone else, so that it will be managed better. Someone that is able to commit his 100% time to vB.org.

I'm not sure if this will actually happen or not, but I wanted to share his concerns as well as mine.

Chen is a good friend of mine, and I'd hate to see this happen!! :( :( :(

Velocd 09-09-2002 06:28 PM

Which does he more prefer: Chen or Firefly?

Anyway, I haven't seen him post in awhile at the full release area, or release a hack, but as you say he's having family issues.

Either that...or preparing some huge massively insane cool hack that will blow us all away :p

umm... if Firefly doesn't belong here anymore then who does? His efforts in the past have led to the greatness of vb.org... I mean i wouldn't really be here now if hackers like him... Xenon... Logician... and Nakkid hadn't influenced me so much... im really sorry to hear Firefly... but if thats your decision that i guess good luck in the future... don't really know what else to say... thanks for making the vb.org community as great as it is :)

regards...

hmm he want leave here?? just hope no! cuz he was hard working here and enjoy to all users..

Hooper 09-09-2002 07:48 PM

He's gone. Chen got a job in China washing dishes for a Hyatt Regency Hotel chain. They say he is the best dish washer ever to gain the job there. Sorry folks, it's all bubbles and rolled up sleeves for Chen now.

Its stupid mindless comments like this that make people feel unwelcome and unwanted here, grow up.

Chen has made the vB.org community what it is, he is a superb hacker and has done an excelent job here at vB.org and without him I don't think vB.org would be as big as it is today. Even if Chen can't commit 100% to vB.org he is still more than welcome here. Perhaps there should be some more mods etc so that the work load is more evenly distributed.

I'd like to thank Chen for all the hard work and effort he has put into the site and all the excenent hacks he has released. I hope things turn out well.

1. i totally agree.
2. i dont even remember how many time chen helped with hacks and tweaks... a "thank you" is just not ehough, that much he helped me.

DrkFusion 09-10-2002 10:46 PM

We all know Chen can't be with us forever, he is a growing man, but for what he has done, for all of us, I hope he will atleast pop in here and there and set us spammers straight here and there.

UHhh wait....sorry to see you go Chen, You are the "best" programer I have seen, do his thing, I hope you get a awesome-paying job for what you do, so you can become rich and by vb.org ^_^.

Anyways hope you can tell us your final decision.

TECK 09-10-2002 10:49 PM

rumors are that he's working hard on ravio.com site... (php coding)

That's not funny.

TECK 09-11-2002 12:39 AM

Erwin, Hooper is an idiot that is not even worth our attention...
he thinks he's all cool and dandy with stoopid baby remarks or "jokes"...

Hooper, when ur gonna acomplish half what this guy FireFly did then you can make any comments, got it??

nope, as I already said but no one wanted to read it I guess...

I'm a mod at yaxay.com and I know for a fact that he is working on the php coding for the upcoming site.

yaxay.com = ravio.com, corey's site. so that's what i ment... i got lost with the names... :)

c-pr0mpt 09-11-2002 05:44 PM

I dont own yaxay anymore. So that is incorrect. And Chen does not work on ravio. He freelances sometimes when I need code work but thats all.

DrkFusion 09-11-2002 07:15 PM

So who owns yaxay now?

NTLDR 09-11-2002 07:18 PM

CRego3D is now the owner of yaXay :)

Erwin 09-11-2002 07:25 PM

ravio.com and yaxay.com are completely different sites. :) As c-prOmpt pointed out, ravio.com is his design site. yaxay.com is now owned by someone else and is a forums site.

g-force2k2 09-12-2002 01:36 AM

i believe that TECK was just reffering to the point that he had gotten confused btw the ravio and yaxay sites... i mean if you don't know about them then can't you confuse them? or is it suppose to be known? either way i don't think he made reference to the fact that C-Prompt actually still owned anything... he was more in general reffering to the point that Firefly was coding something to do with C-Prompt...

g-force2k2

TECK 09-12-2002 02:54 AM

ty g-force, that was exacly my thought... :)
corey, you dont own yaxay because you want to focus on your company, am i correct?
just curious...

c-pr0mpt 09-12-2002 06:48 AM

I havent owned yaxay for quite some time now. Months really.

I sold yaxay for several reasons. One being to focus more on my work, yes.

omegauk 09-12-2002 07:53 AM

Why dont you people stop jumping to conclusions and let Chen deal with his own problems, I am sure he would say something if he was to leave vb.org. You wouldnt believe what some comments people make can be hurtful, offensive, childish and can affect other people.

Also you shoud not be discussing private conversations you had with him here, I think its not apropriate and he might feel you have a big mouth.

IMO

Thank you for all the great contributions you've made to vB in terms of graphics, skins and other template tips. :) I know that you have helped my site.

Off-topic: c-pr0mpt - did you get my email about a custom skin for my forums?

Re: "IMO" - That's not just opinion, it's common sense and respect.

Geez, a guy doesn't post for a little while and everyone starts feeding on rumours.

A little out of hand here, eh?

g-force2k2 09-13-2002 08:08 PM

Arkham the guy is just worried... last time i checked that wasn't a crime... as for the ppl that are spreeding rumors... well yeah maybe they shouldn't... but i would think Xelation and C-Prompt would know if Firefly had any connections with them... regards...

Indeed, Xelation, c-pr0mpt, rockergrrl etc are all respectable members of the community, not someone whos just joined and started posting rumours.

Actually,

Chen himself pointed me to this thread if you must know the truth. I sure wasn't looking for it.

Good grief gentleman. It does appear you're truly worried. My opology for the dish washing joke. Lighten up and have fun.

probably she got the ok from chen to let her say this...
personally, i dont see who could replace Chen. PPN, ya, is a good idea. i dont think some of the devs will take Chen's place...
is to bad if Chen would leave. this place will not be the same without him...

this guy put real heart onto vb.org. i just imagine the nights he spent to update the forums to newer versions... with all the hacks, create better hacks, help the devs, help the people here, check for postings, etc...
all this mixed with his personal life. it takes alot of time and effort.

Hooper, that's why i got offended about the joke. sorry for being harsh, but it was not the place and time to make it that specific joke.
