Unfortunately FireFly didn't have the time to make the hack so i took it up on my own ;) Hope that you enjoy it... here's the breakdown... screenshots will be included below :)

What does this hack do?

It allows your users to private text each other within a post.
It still maintains a regular post. but allows an option to private text other users.
You can choose which usergroupcs can add private text messages and which groups can see them.
But unless a usergroup is allowed to view no other user will be able to view it except the user recieving and the user posting.
Enjoy this hack :) It's really a good addition to keep things smart.
The usergroups options can be edited in the admin cp usergroup.php
And the private text length can also edited in the vbulletin options in admin cp under thread options.
The private text messages work with bbcode... smilies... and disables html etc... same as a regular message would work.
Also maintains the same image count... so if you have your image set at 5 per post and the user tries 3 in a post and 3 in the private text message they will get the images error :)
The private text messages can be edited the same way as a post, but when quoting they're bypassed.

Following Screenshot... Proximity (another s/n for me :p) and me are having a private text conversation... as you can see from the guest shot they don't exist for the guest :)

Yet another screenshot same scenario if you look at the screenshots... Apocalypse (me again) and Proximity are conversing this time... in the last one from g-force2k2 perspective this conversation wasn't viewable :)

Finally last but not least another screenshot from my prospecitve... this time i have full access to see all private text messages as you can see by comparing my first one to this one :)

btw if you look a screenshot back or two you'll see that html was disabled within the private text messages... and that smilies were enabled :)

great hack man...

in my idea, this is more efficent than PMs because i rarely read my PMs

but it would look nice if you made the text for people that can see it like with a black background with white text so people can notice it

yeah i think i might modify it to make it more regonizeable... and yes it can be used like a private message :)

btw you can also simply just edit the postbit_privtxt template and add color etc... whatever you like :) very simple to modify :D

Another Suggestion, hoe about rather than one user, seting it up so only certain usergroups can view 'private text' ?

well included you can decide which usergroups can view all the private text messages... but if you mean having only one certain private text being viewable to a certain usergroup i will work on such :)

Just wondering if you can enable HTML and BBCode and other stuff in them and how hard it'd be?

Hm, install_privatetext.php is not parsed correctly. PHP 4.2.1.

Actually, it looks more like a *.txt file. ;)

lol Sho yeah ask the hackers that install my hacks:p a write all my hacks on php files even though they're readable text files :)

and Link enabled html in the posts should enable it within the private text message ;) no mods needed... i said when i was making this i wanted to be good... hopefully it is :)

Step 5 in showthread.php, I have to search for:

Also, is seems to me like step 6 in showthread.php is the same as step 3.

Sho just follow the instructions down ;) it goes in order... yes there's two occurances... but both appear in the installation... just take it down the php file :)

Step 2 in adding code to the showthread.php has 2 instances of the code. Which one do I use?

And the step you said that had 2 instnaces of the code in newreply has 3 for me. 2 under a redirect and one a few lines down from where I added the other code for this hack.

Boofo follow the code down it'll show both instances... as for the newreply.php issue its the second one... but you said you have two different ones? mine posting an example?

Hmm ... what about "newthread"?

nope... no modifications to that... it wouldn't really be necessary to make a thread just to private text message a user ;) just my thoughts on it though :)

if you downloaded an earlier zip be sure to view the first post for a few spelling errors of mine ;\ but it shoud be just dandy now :)

Ah, another change in newreply.php ... now it seems to work, but I'm going to test it a bit more. ;)

Do you have any problem with "private messages" at showthread.php? Well I have, I test by PTM (private text message) to one of member then I log out and use different member and can saw these at my showthread.php! Also when I log out and I can saw these private messages! Do you have any problem with these?

Unfortunately, yes! When I first tested it, everything worked. Now even guests can view the privtexts.
