vB Flash Player 1.3 - Play Any Flash Game or Movie in vB!

NOTE: This used to be my vB Tetris 1.2 hack. It's been improved to play any Flash game or movie.

Purpose:
------------------

Install this hack ONCE and you can play any SWF game or movie totally integrated inside your forum! The name of the game or movie will be automatically shown in the page title, forum nav bar, and table heading! Just upload the SWF file to your forums directory and then use this URL (changing it to suit your forum directory):

http://www.your-forum.com/forums/flash.php?play=filename
"filename" being the name of the SWF file (without the .SWF) - the name must be exact (including the capitals or small letters)

You can even set the width and height or background color of the Flash movie or game using the URL command line and parameters.

Good for those of you who run your site at HIGH resolutions. :D If you don't enter the width or height parameters, the Flash game or movie will automatically default to 600 x 400. If you don't enter the background color, it will default to your forum page background color. Only registered members will be able to play the game or movie - unregistered users will get the "no permission" log-in page.

Installation
-----------------------

EASY! Takes 1 minute. All you need to do is create 2 templates, and upload 1 file, and you're done. (No db queries to run, no php file edits! :) )

1) Create 2 templates with the text files included - just copy the contents of the text files into the templates with the same name:
flash
error_flash
2) Upload flash.php into your forum directory. The hack is finished! ;)

Then, to play any Flash SWF Game or Movie inside your forum:
1) Upload the SWF file to your forum directory.
2) Link to this URL (change it to suit your forums directory):
http://www.your-forum.com/forums/flash.php?play=filename
"filename" being the name of the SWF file (without the .SWF) - the name must be exact (including the capitals or small letters)

Parameters:
--------------------

play = name of SWF file (without the .swf extension - make sure the capitals and small letters are the same!)
w = width of Flash movie or game
h = height of Flash movie or game
b = background color of Flash movie or game (in hex WITHOUT the # - eg. 000000 for black or FFFFFF for white)

To use default width and height is 600 x 400, or default background color which is your forum background color -

Tetris
-----------

For example, with this hack I've included the Tetris SWF file that was included in my original tetris hack. This game is public domain. To let your members play good old-fashioned Tetris on your forums:

1) Upload tetris.swf to your forums directory (included in the zip file).
2) Link to this URL (change it to suit your forums directory):

The Tetris Flash Game will play integrated into your forums. This works for any Flash game or Movie.

I've changed the screenshot to Snipers:

Very nice first-person-shooter game with nice graphics - just use your mouse to shoot the bad guys! It's the best game I've seen so far in Flash. You are a sniper with a machine gun shooting balaclava-clad terrorists.

Already hit my first snag tho - for some reason, the tetris page loads, but the flash in the middle keeps on loading. But nothing ever comes up :(

Edit: Fixed the above "non display" problem, simply got rid of the ../ before tetris.swf in the tetris template.

Ok, I've actually got the original source for the tetris flash file, I'm going to make see how it works, and add a few things - like a leaderboard :)

Hi

I installed this great and fun game in my forum and it works great and all. The only problem is with whos online, unkown location shows up with the tetris link. Is there any way to fix this monor problem?

I take that back, it still shows unknown location. I double checked to see that I copied and placed it exactly as shown. No luck.

But first you have to get the Flash file to throw out the variable, pass it to another page for processing, and award new members on the leaderboard with some extra points.

what can we say - looking better all time (hope you do release it for those of us who aint into programming

Also as a sideline i cant get my tetris to load on the website its just has a white screen and blue counts up and thats it

But if i use the swf in IE on its own it works fine ?

any ideas anyone

The high score thing is easy - just pass the variable from Flash to another page, and put the fields into the database. Might be something to put on the front page - "Tetris Highest Score: $score ($username)"

If enough people want it, I'll release my store addon code - after it's finished of course :D

I had this problem -

Open your "tetris" template:

Find the two instances of:
#########################
../tetris.swf
#########################

And REPLACE both of them with:
#########################
tetris.swf
#########################

great, I want it! however ok which kind of variable to get that kind of high score feature and field for mysql? ahh I wish I spend lots time on PHP so I can undy this foreign instruction...
