Anybody else besides me think SPYWARE when FireFly made his keystroke announcement on the front page of vb.org? :D I'm sure there's the best of intentions, but goodness gracious, what a way to dress up Big Brother...lol

I think I udnerstand what you're saying and I'd like to politely disagreee:

1. For law enforcement to log keystrokes, examine web logs and email records it no longer takes a warrant (in the U.S.). It's all part of the expanded power of law enforcement, and particularly the F.B.I. approved by Congress in the U.S. Patriot Act after 9/11.

2. In this instance, it is not illegal cause you are consenting to having the "agent" or service running on your PC.

Cheers. :)

Why would it be SpyWare? I checked the data (packets) it sends to its mother ship, nothing but a number.

proxyMX 08-11-2002 02:10 PM

It LOGS data that you output from your pc, therefore it is spyware,

LOL.... well I guess thats all good but you see some peopel online arenot from this country so it is a international vrime that the USofA is commiting.

When it says keystrokes it means it counts the number of keys hit, it is not a key logger which actually logs the keys typed.

Well, I didn't say it WAS
spyware, just that that was the first thing I thought of... :p

Its like your giving authorisation of it, so its up to you. People have a common misconception that spyware is something that goes in and takes details about everything on your pc. But this is clearly a more subtle approach...
