wBBoard?

What is this wBBoard?

I went to a site that said "powered by wBBoard" but it looked identical to vBulletin. Under the copyright it said "vBulletin style blah blah" but are the two connected?

Sincerely confused,

Rose

As far as I know, they are connected in no way at all. That looks like a vBulletin (probably pirated) with the copyright changed to try and fool people. Ive seen quite a few vB boards doing that before.

no that site is definately not a vb :D

wBBoard looks a LOT like vBulletin, more than how vB looked like UBB in its early days. Their templates are 100% based on ours, copied HTML to the T.

So.....this is a legit site, then? No piracy? :D

Erwin 08-08-2002 08:09 PM

Looks like he's using wbboard using a skin that uses a vB theme. :)

DrkFusion 08-08-2002 10:27 PM

keeping in mind the difference in session id thin...i would think its not pirated

zachb 08-08-2002 11:36 PM

wBB is a legit board.

http://www.woltlab.de

No piracy there, just copying of styles.

wBB is probably one of the best boards to get without paying for it however they just started charging for the new version of it lol I used wBB before our site bought a vB. It's quite annoying in some areas though. Like when you try to post on one it will sometimes give you an error that makes no sense but it will eventually work.

I believe Jelsoft sued or something related to WBB but in the end the back-end code is not vB, just the appearance.

proxyMX 08-09-2002 12:21 PM

Basically thats a rip

proxyMX 08-09-2002 12:25 PM

i suppose it would be good for a secondary board.

Rose 08-09-2002 03:54 PM

I guess it's not illegal to have, though, right? I've downloaded a version from the link posted by zachb (thanks!) for a friends board. It's such a rip off that I can't believe what I've done! *lol* But it seems okay to use as a freeboard, I'm sure there'll be problems. And it really can't compare to vB3 - comign soon. ;)

PhpBB is also one of the best free boards around IMO

I cant beleive this board is not under legal actions from VB, it is a carbon copy, and much of the code is indetical.

Dude, people release vB Styles for wBB. Look at wbbhacks.com

Really it is almost legal, but, then again...... it shows how many people love vBs.

Yep. I've seen wbbhacks.com and wbbmods.com It's like someone is scouring the vb hacks and changing a few things here and there and releasing in wbb. :s I just did the avatar categories hack there. It's a pain the way everything is setup.

Brad 08-09-2002 09:38 PM

look at the newest update on wbbhacks.com  they are acully paying money if someone mangest to refer/bring back people, :disappointed: thats just...bleh.

scsa20 08-10-2002 12:13 AM

yeah, seems like no one goes to wbbmods.com anymore so they're trying to brife the members into getting active again

[D]Vincent 08-10-2002 04:58 AM

You Lesane but wBB has more hacks, or atleast what I come to understand ^^

And they are giving away a site to bring back members. That's pretty desperate =\ I would try but I got bored of going there once my vB was back up.
