Another excellent hack by bad_madman. Checking it out now ;)
*installs*

Velocd 07-15-2002 11:57 PM

This looks very good, I just installed. The only thing I would like to disable is the public viewing of book marks, how might I go about doing this? I really don't want somebody posting a nasty bookmark and make it public..

Or actually, to disable public viewing would all I have to do is remove the option for it in the bookmark page, when creating a new bookmark?

I do have some suggestions also, it would be really cool to have a link on every thread page, or maybe if a combination of keys was pressed like ctrl+b, that would bookmark that page/thread you were on and save it in your bookmarks. Man this would be useful ^_^

Brad 07-16-2002 12:27 AM

ooo i like

[high]* Brad clicks install button
[/high]

anthor great hack from you :)

Ian 07-16-2002 12:33 AM

I just installed it and I must say, installation was a breeze with the included installer... It really simplified things.

I do have one problem though. When I click the "Browse" link on my board; it loads fine but I get the following JavaScript error:
Quote:

Line: 264
Char: 14
Error: Expected ')'
Code: 0
URL: http://forums.zforcenetwork.com/book...ction=cpbrowse
Other than that, everything seems to be working great. Here's a few screenshots(best viewed with resolution at 1024x768). I zipped them up so you'll need a utility like WinZip to view them.

Smoothie 07-16-2002 12:48 AM

Thanks for ss Ian. Looks nice.

Also, is it possible to add a link to threads on the boards to allow a user to automatically add that thread to their bookmarks?

Boofo 07-16-2002 08:38 AM

I got one heck of a long db error when I tried to install this. I've never had that problem before. Must be something going on with my db, but everything else runs fine. Go figure. I was due for a messup. Never had one until now. :)

Or actually, to disable public viewing would all I have to do is remove the option for it in the bookmark page, when creating a new bookmark?

Set "Hyperlink text in member profile" in Admin CP Bookmark Options to "0". Public browsing is then deactivated.

A fast solution for this: Add a hyperlink on each thread. e.g.:
search in template showthread for
Code:

<a href="member2.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=addsubscription&threadid=$threadid">Subscribe to this Thread</a>
and add after:
Code:

| <img src="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/images/subscribe.gif" alt="" border="0" align="absmiddle">
        <a href="bookmarks.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=add&threadid=$threadid">Add to Bookmarks</a>

Then upload the new bookmarks.php (from ZIP-archiv) into your forums directory...

I get a database error when i do custum templates. I dont no why.

add/delete Templates in Termplate Sets...

\r\n') mysql error: Column count doesn't match value count at row 1 mysql error number: 1136 Date: Tuesday 16th of July 2002 08:30:58 AM Script: http://www.siteurl.com/messageboard/.../sqltodos5.php Referer: http://www.siteurl.com/messageboard/...undo=&fileext= -->

I just noticed the URL to the site it shows me. Why does it say 2 messageboards? This is is weird.

IF no one noes how to fix this can someone make a txt file with all the templates not modifyied by anyone please. This hack looks amazing and I would love to install it soon. Thanks. Please help.

Hotte 07-16-2002 11:54 AM

Boofo 07-16-2002 12:00 PM

I, too, got an error. Only mine was about a page and a half long. :) We must have something screwy going on with our dbs. :)
bad_madman is looking into the problem now and I have no doubt we will be able to install and enjoy this hack soon. :)

BigJohnson 07-16-2002 12:17 PM

lol. I think we will be able to install it. We just will have to enter ever template in automatcially and wont have it globally entered into the database. I hope that is what we can do. lol.

tractor-beam 07-16-2002 12:27 PM

This sounds like a great hack! Please excuse my question, but, I am un-sure as to how the end user will use this.

Will "web links" be an available button somewhere in the forum? I hyperlink perhaps? How does the end user use this nifty new feature?

Thanks!

Dean C 07-16-2002 03:23 PM

is the current zip file fixed with all bugs gone?? :D

bad_madman 07-16-2002 03:45 PM

Jep. The zip file is up to date:
- database error when add custum templates is removed
- bookmark thread feature added
- new option in Admin CP Options: Enable/disable URL format check

Edit:
to update for new admin cp option and bookmark thread feature:
Run the installer (sqltodos5.php) again, but only the first step (Add tables/rows/fields in SQL-DB). That's all. Replace the old bookmarks.php with the file from zip archive.

The links shows in the user profile and in the users control panel. For me it's an awesome link because I travel a lot and my site is about travel and whenever I run off to another country I always have to make up a private page on my web server or carry a floppy of important links that I need. (i.e.-to pay bills, run a business, etc...etc..) I can't remember them all.

Having a way where I can do this on my own forum and be able to access it worldwide, saves me and my members loads of time.

Cheers
Mike

I don't see where the link is for other member's to view your shared URL links. We didn't modify the getinfo template so how are the other members going to see the link? Just wondering.

Also, I installed the original version - do I need to run the installer again to add the new setting options? If I don't want the new options, can I stay with the original bookmark.php file or should I upload the new file? Thanks.

You find the link in members profile for the user (see screenshot). The hyperlink is only visible, if the user has public bookmarks and 'browse public bookmarks' enabled (in admin cp options). You don't must change the template 'getinfo'. The hyperlink in members profile is made by the change in the file member.php (customfields routine).

Yes. Run the installer again, but only the first step (Add tables/rows/fields in SQL-DB). That's all. Replace the old bookmarks.php with the file from zip archive - this is better.

Erwin 07-17-2002 01:32 AM

Aahhh... should have seen it... that is very smart, using the customuserfield to do this. Good idea! :)

Smoothie 07-17-2002 03:34 AM

Ok, i installed the hack when it first was posted. then i added the links to add the thread to your bookmarks. When i click add to bookmarks, it brings me to the my user cp, add bookmarks, but none of the fields are filled in. I downloaded the latest file in post 1, re-ran the first step of the installer, uploaded the new bookmarks.php file, and it is still the same. Shouldn't clicking add to bookmarks fill in the url?

Smoothie 07-17-2002 03:41 AM

Never mind :paranoid: I could have sworn I uploaded the new bookmarks.php file. Guess i didn't... :knockedout: Works fine now..
