Drastic News...

This is our current homepage (http://www.thelyceum.org/)

==============================================

I am sorry to have to inform you of this, but a certain individual (soroka) deleted the database...

Many efforts are being made to correct this problem, but as yet, we have had no solutions...

Fade and myself (hellsatan) have contacted the hosting company, and gotten support from the vbulletin.org and vbulletin.com forums, but we have still found no solution...

The Lyceum Temporary Forums - XMB Board

We are sorry to have to do this, but I have setup a Temporary XMB Board for those of you wishing to post at The Lyceum...This board will be updated as regularly as possible...

We shall try and keep you updated...

Satan and Fade

==============================================

This is awful...This guy got given money, a liscence and friendship by Fade (the Owner of The Lyceum), and then he turns round and delted the Database!!!

What do you think we should do?

Satan

nuno 06-15-2002 09:06 PM

burn him

Boofo 06-15-2002 09:27 PM

Be careful who you trust in the future. That's exactly why I am all for 1 Admin on a board. :)

Chris M 06-15-2002 10:33 PM

This really is awful to have to deal with...

Very good advice!

Also you should regularly make backups of your database and upload it to your home computer. There's absolutely no reason to completely lose a database like this. A little caution and preparation goes a long way!

if your database is gone its gone, unless you or the server has a back up. im sorry about that, ive had to go thru similar things about 6 times now (all witch where on my ubb) it was the server and not anthor admin. if you have to start clean your true active posters will always retrun, thats the way mine always worked, then again my forum is over 2 years old :/

Admin 06-16-2002 05:18 AM

You should be burned for using XMB! ;)

Chris M 06-16-2002 09:11 AM

We had to...

I tried to re-install vBulletin, but whatever the guy did, he did it good - It kept coming up with errors etc...

See here : https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=39885

@smachol & Anime-loo - Fade (The Owner) and the guy who deleted it (soroka) were the only two people able to access, backup and delete the database...

Excellent advice here, too. If you only have one Admin who is allowed access to the database and make backups regularly, then you can avoid things like this happeneing. It's too bad people have to be like that, but they are out there.

Yeh...

Well its not my site, and I could do nothing to prevent it, but its still a horrible thing to do...

Im currently attempting to re-install vB, but could somebody help me here.

if you have someone you can trust...and i mean TRUST then its safe to let them do backup's and such. me and the other main admin (2 of 3) are the only ones allowed anywhere near the database and 80% of the time its only me in there, but im on 56k, so the other main admin dose the backups, i just do the editing/crashing ;).

edit- i forgot to add the only reason i trust her so much is ive known her 3 years now.

Chris M 06-16-2002 10:33 AM

Yeh...

I am on a 56k modem too, but I will backup my boards whenever I can...

Personally, I think Database access should be limited to the owner, but I am not the Owner of the board in question...

Brad 06-16-2002 10:51 AM

i back mine up weekly and our server dose a tape backup twice daily. the other admin backs up daily. so we are purty much covered

Chris M 06-16-2002 10:56 AM

Good...

I wish we were...

Not that it would matter now...Whatever errors are being made, I cannot get head nor tail of it...

Never trust anybody else with your FTP or DB password. Not because they would deliberately cause harm, but because they may stuff things up by accident.

Velocd 06-19-2002 01:57 AM

The moral of this story: Trust. I myself have good friends on the internet I know if I need help with administration and my website building I can trust, because I've known these guys for awhile, but there are many people out there (98% of the world in fact) that you can't trust because of their stupidity.

Boofo 06-19-2002 02:02 AM

Their stupidty isn't what worries me as much as their willfull intention to destroy what they don't understand and appreciate.

Looks to me like its working fine -

http://www.thelyceum.org/forum

The only thing wrong I see is that you need to make an index.html file for you main directory

http://www.thelyceum.org

and make it point to:
