Mod Drop Down - Good or EVIL?

I always hear from people saying the Mod Drop Down sucks on sites and looks horrible and amatuerish, while other people love it to death. Personally I like the moderator list hack, like these forums have to display moderators, so I'm going with EVIL. But what do you all think, I much rather ask the hackers and Vbulletin owners :D Hopefully this poll has not been created before.

Admin 05-23-2002 05:20 AM

Evil. Hate it. Can't stand it.

Xenon 05-23-2002 09:05 AM

same like firefly...

i want to see the mods of a forum in one view, and i don't want to have to klick on a list therefor

Sparkz 05-23-2002 09:35 AM

Hmm, I'd say evil - tho it might not be correct, because evil is good, and hence it is not evil anymore...

This will always confuse me...

Xelation 05-23-2002 10:52 AM

I hate the thing, it looks so horrible, god who really wants to click the thing down to see who the mods are anyways, and yeah I think amature vb designers use that way to much

NTLDR 05-23-2002 03:03 PM

I'm going with evil to, no disrespect to the hack maker, but i can't stand it.

JulianD 05-23-2002 11:58 PM

I don't like it, but it might be necesarry when there are a lot of moderator on a forum.

N!ck 05-24-2002 12:14 AM

there was no option for hideous/disgusting, so i picked evil instead

Dean C 05-24-2002 05:50 PM

EVIL LMFAO !!!....

the mod-drop down gives a nice clean look to ure mod-column on ure site... i hate it when sites have loads of mods and they ruin the look of the mod column... its one of my faves of all to install on my boards i work on ...

THUMBS UP TO MOD-DROP DOWN COLUMN...

PET 05-24-2002 06:19 PM

Is this the hack....thet replace the moderors...with a drop-down ? I want to see that hack.

10x.

freeshares1 05-24-2002 06:22 PM

I think it does have a use and looks good.

phil

PET 05-24-2002 06:43 PM

I found it..and install it.

Well it is usefoul if you have manny moderators...but at the look...i don't like it !

mondaynightmike 05-24-2002 06:46 PM

hate it, although it can look good on seom custom styles. Personally i hate it and i won't have it on mine.

floleb7 05-24-2002 10:48 PM

a Moderator List link with this dhtml script http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/popinfo.htm could be a great stuff

heretic 05-25-2002 12:24 AM

I don't even have a mod column... so I guess I hate it. there's a vibe I get when I see a site with it that I can't explain..it's not good though....

i think if you're one of those people who would do that template mod for the three icons next to each forum title, you could make one more icon for moderators and this would work. but i still hate the mod column, especially the dropdown.

N!ck 05-25-2002 09:36 PM

<a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/popinfo2.htm" target="_blank">http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/popinfo2.htm</a>

^-- that one's better though. it works with IE, NS, and NS6

my board haven't a lot of moderator so it's not a personnal request or anything else

i think that mod drop down is not a good thing because you d'ont see quickly the teams.
But for people who wants something like dorp down the pop up could be a solution

however your link is not the same thing than mine yours can only change color so not a good stuff

Velocd 05-28-2002 02:37 AM

Wow, it appears to be completely neutral in votes. But evil must always prevail! muahaha.....

proxyMX 08-01-2002 04:50 AM

i think YOU are all evil, some hacker spent time on this :P

And im refusing to talk to firefly, for being a moderator or admin at every damn forum i join :P

mr e 08-01-2002 06:45 AM

cant stand the ugly thing

ULTIMATESSJ 08-01-2002 03:27 PM

i think it is quite good actually, for boards with a lot of moderators, looks neater too

Rose 08-01-2002 03:40 PM

I personally don't like it. I prefer to see who mods what on the forum home than have a box to click.

zachb 08-01-2002 04:16 PM

EVIL!

ethank 08-01-2002 04:19 PM

Do what I do: remove the mod column entirely. Much nicer! I just put utilities in it: mark forum read, mark forum + children read, new posts in forum and new posts in forum + children forums. All as nice icons. And the column doesn't even show up unless there are new posts.

mjames 08-06-2002 04:09 AM

I dislike it -- in fact, I've removed the entire moderator column. Isn't needed, simplifies things. Also, I think it's silly when you have 1-2 moderators and use the drop-down menu. Maybe if you have 10 for a really large forum, but that's not a usual scenario.

drives fast 08-12-2002 03:04 AM

I like it...I modified it to remove the mod graphic and edited it to point to the forums leaders page since I make all my mods super mods so I don't have to list every name in every forum. I also created a dummy moderator called "The Team" and set that as the mod in every forum but the link points to the forum leaders page instead.

it looks cleaner than a text link

I say "GOOD"

the score is even again

Sting 08-12-2002 03:16 AM

hehe I tiped the balance to Good hehe bc it is good if u have a lot of mods...

Erwin 08-12-2002 06:27 AM

Remember... pieces of code cannot be evil or good... only the creator of the code...

;)

Xyphen 03-09-2003 10:10 PM

I think its pretty cool...

filburt1 03-09-2003 10:35 PM

More evil than the number of times Bush has said "evil." Nothing on a web page should need clicking to reveal the requested information.

[high]* filburt1 casually slides his welcome panel under the carpet with his foot ;)
[/high]

Still, it looks horrible. 100% with Chen on this one.

Mephisteus 04-26-2003 12:06 PM

It is completely awfull, I hate it. I often get asked to code on some forum created by people that have NO license and those people ALWAYS have that damn mod dropdown installed. I HATE THAT DAMN THING!

EVIIIIIIIIIIIL

Dean C 04-26-2003 01:06 PM

Wow bumping of an old thread there ;)

Why in general do people hate it so much? I mean on a mac with their graphical dropdowns and scrollbars i bet it looks horrible but on IE it looks fine. Can i see a screenie of a mod dropdown on a mac :)?

flup 04-26-2003 02:09 PM

LOVELY ;D

Link14716 04-26-2003 03:49 PM

Because:
1. You have to click to display the information
2. Traditionally the dropdowns in pages are only used for redirections
3. 99% of the time, people who use the mod dropdown don't even have mods in all forums

Dean C 04-26-2003 05:41 PM

1/ And your saying that with two links on your site which pop up information on the forumbits ;)
2/ Tradition - if we all lived by tradition we'd be brushing our teeth using urine and living in animal skins lol ! :)
3/ And this is a problem because?

I love the mod drop down on my site. I've got too many moderators and the formating looks stupid without it.

Forum visitors don't care who the moderators are, if they want to know, they can click. Otherwise I don't think they'd want to see the moderator list.
