Input for vB.org Skin

Hey guys/gals. I am doing a skin for vB.org and want some input on what you would like.

To start off I am going a more simple route than a intese graphical one. So no one that knows me needs to worry about that. But what about color scheme? etc?

Any input is appreciated. So far I plan on keeping the color scheme light grays, whites, and dark orange/red, and some thin greens.

Thanks for any input.

nuno 05-12-2002 04:32 PM

Plain Green rox ;)

c-pr0mpt 05-12-2002 04:37 PM

Well thanks for the spam...

Plain Green is the title of a current style. So I took it as you are saying the current style, "Plain Green" rocks. Which yes, would be spam.

If you are recommending a color scheme why are you recommending one that is already being use?

Eniyi 05-13-2002 11:46 AM

Green is my favorite color, so I'm happy with Plain Green, but both the Purple and Dark Blue are "dark" styles. What about light orange/red? Although it's easier to read things with light text color on dark background, it would be better to have lighter styles.

Sparkz 05-13-2002 11:53 AM

Right now I'm using plain green. I'd love a darker style with as little graphics as possible.
I am a geek... Light hurts!
Hell, I am even afraid of turning to stone when I have to go out in broad daylight...

Admin 05-13-2002 12:05 PM

Orange would definitely be nice. :)

scsa20 05-13-2002 01:42 PM

I like it dark, as long as it is dark, I'm okey with it.

SaintDog 05-13-2002 02:28 PM

I would have to go with FireFly, it would be nice to bring in an orange theme to vBulletin.org. I am sure it will look nice with whatever you decide to do, I have seen a few of your designs (not all) and I have not had a complaint about one of them :).

Silver and Orange Trend w*h*o*r*e Style

Chris M 05-13-2002 07:44 PM

I think a Nice Silver and Turqoise Style would be cool...

Or Silver and Black...

c-pr0mpt 05-13-2002 07:51 PM

Well, the one thing it won't be for sure is dark. It will definitely be a lighter color scheme.

[high]* c-pr0mpt hates dark forums.

Let the light be with you my son. lol ;)

zachb 05-14-2002 01:21 AM

I'd like to see some earth tones. Maybe a lighter green, or a light reddish-orange. Anything that won't hurt my eyes after looking at it for awhile. :)

Xanthine 05-14-2002 01:27 AM

[high]* Xanthine demands orange, or at least recommends it :)[/high]

c-pr0mpt 05-14-2002 07:11 AM

Ok will have a demo in a few days to show to Firefly. Thanks for all input.

Chris M 05-14-2002 05:12 PM

Or "Puke Orange", "Diaper Yellow", or "Hospital Waste Pink."

God, I don't know what it is with people today and their orange...

Dark schemes are easier on the eyes anyway. The trick is to make them readable and balanced. Granted, that's probably why people whine about dark schemes, because most of them out there are , for example, light grey text on medium grey highlight on darker grey background. Slate's gorgeous, but it has to be balanced out.

(Man, I don't think most people on the net today would have survived online before '94... Damn n00bs. ;) )

I prefer site schemes that don't look like they're Fisher Price Playsets for Toddlers, or that look like the earlier "neon-eye-scraping" WiRED magazine schemes.

Whatever colours you use, make sure they're balanced. Actually, I quite like BBAddOns and vbulletintemplates as far as lighter sites go.

Apart from the orange, Yaxay.com is gorgeous and well balanced, so I trust that any scheme you end up using will be a real looker.

c-pr0mpt 05-14-2002 08:06 PM

Trust me. Orange, and other colors will just be accent colors and not main colors for the layout. I originally wanted to stay away from orange because of yaxay being so well known for its orange/gray combo. I didn't want to seem "attached to the hip" with that color scheme.

Heh, trust in c-prompt is not trust misplaced... :)

Actually I really like the current vb.org blue style. Now THAT one is well balanced.

(Needs a touch more black ;) but apart from that it's one of the best vB schemes. )

cheers

Sigon 05-19-2002 03:12 PM

orange sounds nice to me as well. I don't like this green all that much nor the blue. The green kinda tears into me after awhile and I got really bored of the blue. Why am I using the green then? Cause I used my powers and knew that I would not be using it long because the big C was going to making something that roXXors. And I was right! Well no but really I am a fan of C's work and am eagerly waiting(along with others) for this new style.

Admin 05-19-2002 03:24 PM

Did I mention we won't use Corey's style until vB3 is out?

Xenon 05-19-2002 03:26 PM

some years later.....

and where is it? ^^

and: i don't like orange :D
but we'll see, i think it'll be good work, also there would be orange in it ^^

mjames 05-19-2002 07:46 PM

It'd be cool to have a Fancy Blue skin, like the green, but blue. :)

All this talk about vB3... and now we even have to wait for vB3 for Corey's skin.

I know it will all be worth the wait though :D

Neo 05-19-2002 09:54 PM

BuShWaCkY 05-30-2002 04:27 PM

You should make everything with no black borders.. sort of floating I guess but in a good looking way by organizing and moving things around.. I dunno anything that comes outta C: will be nice :D

Dean C 06-02-2002 04:12 PM

when is this style going to be released???

Chris M 06-04-2002 01:58 AM

/me wonders whether it is a myth...

SaintDog 06-04-2002 07:26 AM

It takes time to make a good design, it is not something that can be made in a short about of time. I am sure some work takes 1 month or longer while others take 1 week or less. Give corey some time, I am sure he has other work as well. Once it is done, everyone will see it when it is placed on vBulletin.org (I am sure FireFly will make an announcement of it as well ;)).

No need to rush things along :)
