Fading Links
 

ok, maybe this is a hack and maybe it isn't!!
But before you say something, you have full permission to move this thread at any times, because I am new here, I have no idea, if this applies as a hack or whatever!!

here goes..

DOwnload the attachments below! Edit that attachment to fix the colors and stuff, once you have customized your fading colors,
you need to upload fade_hack.js file to your server!
when your done uploading, put the following code:
in your Header
Template Right after:

Remember, You can only edit fade_hack.js with a text editor or a php editor!! :cool:

correct me if I am wrong, plz.. and delete this thread if this does not count as a hack!!

Hack: hacks are when you either edit scripts/code (php) or add code to make a new effect to your board.

Style/Template Hacks: these are when you manipulate the look of the board.

This would be a template hack in my mind. But thanks for the try.

Would also have been better if you had not removed the top part from the file..

if this is not a hack, plz move it to whatever, and I didn't remove anything from the file.. I just got it that way from a friend, and I thought of this.. and just like I said, do not argu, correct me if I am wrong, I don't like arguning

How do i apply the JS to the forums ? im such a noob

just added it and working fine on threads/topics, but how do I add this on the main forum links?

For the other people who don't know.. you can't make the main forum links fade due to them being within bold brackets. It's a common problem with the script.

I believe if the <b> tags are within the link itselt it will cause problems, or vise versa, I can't remember exactly how it works, but it's something like that.

yeah, I'm betting he took it out so that it would look like he made the script.

he also left in the old instructions tht have the filename as fade.js

how can I post a screen shot? and no I wasn't trying to show that I made the scripts you @SS, I got this script from somewhere like the way it is.. all this template modification does is when you go over a link it makes it fade, you do know what fade is don't you??

How do i put it on my site.....i installed it.....uploaded the javascript and none of the links fade

So, every single link that I want to fade needs to be modified?? OR if I install the .js file let's say... in the domain.com/forums directory, every hyperlink within that directory will automatically fade?

this is a fun hack, really cool messing with colors etc

You would have to take the <b></b> from inside of every link.
If a link looks like:

<a href="#"><b></b></a> it won't work, it has to be <b><a href="#"></a></b>. No HTML tags can be inside the a href. Which would require a lot of template work..

Would be nice if someone took a fresh install, changed all of the links (Very wishful thinking ;)) and saved it as a .style so people could use this. Or maybe there's an easier way?

It's just a matter of principle. Credit should be given to the person responsible.

Really, there are only about ten places, if that, in the templates where that is the case... I think there is one in the php though.... I could list all the templates if you like? ;)

your all welcome, and you dont' have to edit every single link to make it fade, but Bold links will not fade..

Is there a way to fix it so that more of the links fade ?
under 1/2 of the links work ?
I would like at least the links for the froums and threads to fade ...
I don't know much about vbb this is the frist time I use it, where do you find how the template for creating the links for the forums on the front page ? is that what needs editing ?

Not completely positive what a "faded link" is :P

i dont think yuo can do a screenshot...unlss you like make a 5 sec video...lol.....


faded link would be like having your default link color be BLUE then having trhe fade colors be purple and black.

so each time you hovered a link it would start out blue then fade to purple and end up in black. and when you discontinue hovering, the link goes back to the default, being blue in this case.

maybe that made sense....:)!

whenever I try to rollover a link, I get 2 runtime errors... "Invalid property value"
