Member of the Month
 

Anyone interested in creating a hack for a Member of the Month feature? Instead of running like FireFly's MOTD feature(ie random), the MOTM would be chosen by board users. This is what I have in mind.......

Have a link under each user's title to nominate them for MOTM.
Board users can nominate only 1 user per month.
The MOTM cannot be MOTM twice in a row.
The MOTM should have some type of graphic on their posts. (similar to birthday hack)
At the end of the month, tally up the nominations and the user with the highest nominations is the MOTM. Incase of tie, MOTM is chosen at random from the tieing nominies.

This is actually a nice idea! Currently I have my Mods choose our M.O.M. butr this way might actually be a little better.

yea this sounds like quite a good idea. How would it work though? Would the users click a button which submits the persons name to the admin or mods as member of the month or would it work on votes?

I would imagine that it would work on votes. Registered users are the only ones that should be able to vote. I would think just a little link would be all that it needed.

It sounds hard..it involves in voting/nominating, then the next month those votes needs to be wiped

i was thinking of this hack too, here are a few little ideas that i came up with also

Momber of the Month must have equal to or greater then XXX amount of posts, and you can change this in the admin CP, so you dont have to go into the hack file and change it whenever your board gets more posts.

But instead of tallying up the nominations its an automated system where it randomly picks the user ever first day of the new month, but the same user cnnot be MOTM twice in a row.

i hope someone does. this would be a nice addition to any site.

Why don't you do like BOTM here, one thread for nominations, count seconds, etc. Then another thread with a poll that runs for 30 days?

Because allowing user to choose who to nominate would make the choosing fair and less work on our part starting 2 threads... at least that is my reasoning...not sure about others..

This would be a great idea, for me I plan on using this to give rewards like ipods and other electronic gadgets in exchange for being nominated... More user interaction, better quality posts etc...

Well you can see the Member of the Month mod on my site. I just got it done, right now you can only nominate members but on May 1st, the poll will be live to vote on.

I am in the process of completly revamping my site so this new feature will be very cool.

And change the cron to monthly

Roger, that doesn't let you vote for the member or anything.

Namepros has a system that was custom made that does this. When its that time of the month, you can nominate someone and write why you nominated them. The admins then review the entrees and decide based on that. The member then gets a little "MOTM" badge which when you hover says "Member of the Month, October 2007" (example).

Why just have this as "Member of the Month". Why not run it like the mod of the month here? One thread per nomination and click on a button in the thread for the nomination - just like mod of the month. It could be used for other things as well then - car of the month etc etc .... I'm looking for this for my site
