ok. this is another incredibly simple hack. it will replace your classic VB image icon (in the Private Messages field) with a customised one.

included in the file are the install instructions and the 2 .gif animated images that will imitate the messenger signin/signout event we all know so well. you can also customize the images the way you want.

Uhm,
and for those who want to do this in a template hack, rather then a code-hack, so upgrading to future versions is more easy: Check mah code :P

This is cool! I try and model my boards "style" around XP,MSN,etc so it has a familier look and feel. Thanks.

thank you all for the nice words. this file was downloaded more then 50times in few hours since i released the hack. ;)

please post your comments here. also i might release another mini-hack related to the online icon soon, if my wife will let me work more on it.. hehehe.....

Just because its a hack forum doesn't mean its the easiest thing to do...if you can do it in templates, its a lot better, as you don't have to re-do it when you upgrade.

you dont get the point. if is a template hack, it should be in the Template Modifications. this forum is for hacks related to any .php file NOT templates. i personally dont like template hacks but that's my way of dealing with things. i prefer to mod the actual code because is alot easier for me. and btw, i use my own php template installer who installs all the templates i need.

Thank you that you like my hack also, but why code-hack and complain when you have to upgrade to future versions, when you can do this with a template change. I thought code-hacks were the alternatives to template-modifications, for where original vbulletin code fails to comply.

Yes this is a hacking community, but that doesn't mean I can contribute either :) And just noticing out to those who rather do a template mod first. The choice is theirs anyway.

TECK 04-28-2002 10:47 AM

ur right xiphoid. :)
either ways is great. i personally never edit the templates.. but instead i mod vbulletin.style file and import it with a script into the database. i do this because i want to avoid any html code mods that are present in every new release.

as you know, the upgrade does not change the custom templates. also i saw that VB recommends to revert the templates to original. so that's why i decided to use this little trick to update my templates.
