Mine was Vb1.0, and it was this little Final fantasy site, a couple of years ago, you?
|
An ezboard that I devoted too much of my time too....it only got 88 members and I was an arogant little bugger....I thought it was great at the time...:D
|
I started OptiBoard in 1995 using Matt Wright's WWWBoard script. :eek:
|
My first board was phpbb, it was one of the first versions. Like this one but then without that many features:
http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB/ And look at the new Phpbb: http://hacks.phpbb.com/ :eek: Its, in my eyez, one of the best free bulletin board. |
Don't let the look fool you, Lesane.
|
tru tru, did u ever installed that new version or?
|
Yup... locally.
|
I think my first board was with ezbaord too and it was about web development. It never really got off the ground, no more than about 15 members. I then remember finding out about BoardPower (it had a different name back then, but I can't remember what). Then I found out about UBB and then vB and now I would never dare use anything else otherthan vB.
|
EZboard --> Discus --> Discus Pro --> VB
In that order :p |
vb 2.2.1 was my first - i started live in dec 2001 now 3 months on i have 5,757 members but only 675 posts LOL never mind not bad in 3 months :D
|
WebBoard --> UBB --> vB 1
|
Everyone.net community --> UBB --> vB period
|
Matt Wright's forum :)
Then the trial UBB - then I started admining UBB boards for my workplace about 2 or 3 years ago, then I discovered vB and the rest is history :o |

mine was ubb5.45c <- R.I.P. |
Well... I started with UB2k 2.10. After that died I switched to vBulletin - one of my best ideas ever ;)
|
Mine was an ezboard, I believe, about two or three years ago. It was sports-related, to go with my site back then. It never had more than 1,500 total posts, I blame ezboard for that. I switched to vB in Nov., 2000 and things are going very smoothly.
<edit>This is my 100th post! :)</edit> |
Matt Wrights -> WebBBS -> My own modified WebBBS -> WWWThreads SQL (At one time, it was just me and scream, I wrote the original documentation for WWWThreads) -> My own bulletin board software (which was never released) -> vBulletin
|
Mine was some hosted forum board -->Disc Pro-->Ultraboard -->Ubb -->phpBB -->VB
|
My fist one was also Matt Wright?s WWWBoard but i didn?t use it for a long time. Next was WebBBS from AWSD which i?ve used for more than 2 years. But last year i thought it was time for a new one with increased features. The fist one i saw which was that i looked for was UBB so i licensed it. Wasted money after discovering vB 3 weeks ago. I made a test install and there were all the features missing in UBB as a standard. :) Two weeks i suffered by always thinking about spending again money for a board - then vB was stronger ;) Last week i bought it, converted my UBB data to vB and now i?m happy...
My WebBBS is still alive as an archive, because there are many postings as a kind of "knowledge base" which i won?t loose. The absolutely greatest would be an import script to get all these old WebBBS postings into one of my vB forums... |
netmax,
Could you please adjust the footer on your page so the Jelsoft copyright is made more visible? It's really not right to try and hide it like that. Also please go to this page and enter your username, to show you are licensed. (you will need to use your customer number and password to access that page) Thank you. |
Steve,
i did enter my username in this form directly after getting the license information, it told me that the names were updated - but now it was gone. But no problem, i did it again few minutes ago. I will add a little more grey into the copyright notice. What would be the accepted "color difference"? In the license agreement they say it must not be removed and be visible. I have no problem to see it there (how many colcors do you use on your monitor :pleased: :pleased: :pleased: ), but it Jelsoft have definitions about that i will of course change it... Marco |
Ignoring some free version of UBB, I basically started with, I think, vBulletin 1.1.3. I bought an owned license and used it to start a new site, MovieForums.com. I ran 1.1.3, with a hack here or there, for a LONG time. All the way until 2.0 stable was out! I upgraded (had some issues, lost old polls and such, but nothing huge), and have hacked it up like crazy since.
|
I started with vBulletin 1.1.2 a year or two ago - vB's certainly come a long way since then :)

As far as I'm concerned it's still not visible enough, but that's just my opinion. Since this is the only text you've made this color, it does appear that you are going out of your way to make sure the copyright info has as little visibility as possible while trying to keep within the 'letter' of the license agreement. Sorry, but I don't have much respect for that tactic. Why don't you just make it the same color as the rest of your text? |
<grin> Not that it makes any difference... BUT, I'd like to point out that if I am a customer of vbulletin, and if I am operating well within the bounds of the license agreement, I believe I have the right to change the color of the "copyright" text. Yes it's obvious that I'm trying to grey it out, and it may even be a bit tacky. But I guarantee you that nobody is going to have a hard time reading that text unless they're near blind. And if that is the case, they probably have a program reading the text for them.
Of course, you were just stating your opinion, and I'm just stating mine. No offense intended. Thanks ;) I would lay off netmax, as he's a paying customer, and not violating the license in any way. |
For the record, vision problems related to contrast sensitivity are far more common than you realize. For instance, I honestly could not read that copyright text, yet I am far from blind (my vision is 20/20) and do not need to use a program that reads text for me.
Based on my visual perception, I felt I had the right to bring this issue up. I'm really happy that you have such great eye sight and sincerely wish that's always true for you. |
kermie, I don't know what you're talking about but the copyright at your site is black like the night. :)
As for netmax, he could be a paying customer but still he violates the license agreement: - All vBulletin copyright notices within design templates must remain unchanged (and visible). I can barely find the copyright on his site, let alone read it. When I lower the contrast level in my monitor I begin to see to fuzzy letters, but that's all. |

My first forum was made from MS Frontpage (I believe) which included a bot type plugin which allowed users to post a few comments. I was pretty impressed with myself (for finding a hosting account with Front Page Extensions, YUK!) and acutally getting it to work, eventually. :)
From there I played with ubb and then moved to vB :D |
@Steve
OK, i really won?t the people at Jelsoft working so hard on this fantastic product see in bad mood about this, i set a much higher contrast. Now, it should be readable for all :D Marco |
Actually vB is my first forum. The story went like this:
Went to ezboard. Looked around. Didn't care for the ads. This is a company forum and ads are just not professional. Tried UBB Threads. Couldn't get the thing installed on my server. Always the same error message at exacly the same. Tried vB. Installed on the first try, decided to stick with it. Company bought it. Tried wB, or Woltlab Burning Board for my personal board, since it's free. It's OK, but not good enough, so it looks like I'll be buying a license for myself as well :) |
Uhm... let me think...
ezboard --> YaBB (>_< doh!) and finally vB!! We are really happy with vB!! :) |
EZBoard >> XMB .25 through 1.x "Winter B***job" or whatever stupid names they attach to their version numbers. >> wBB >> vB 2.2.5 (Where I plan to stay :))
|
UBB v5.x*shudder* --> vB
|
wow.. same here ub2k also... switched to VB.
tech stuff related. from what i heard, the UB2K creator was sued. him and his uncle got in trouble. that determined me to look for another board. free boards were out of the question for me, so i found VB, while looking at UBB. lol, a UBB user was telling others about VB. i quote: "take a look at this board, i want it... www.vbulletin.com" i remember how amased i was when i saw the VB look. it was a huge difference from my little UB2K. since then, i never had the need to look for other board. :) |
my first board was vbforums.com (which, if you guys didn't notice, works with Jelsoft also for testing the newer version of vBulletin ;))...then after that, I went to alot of boards....the first board I ever set up was an Ezboard, then it was wBB, and now vBulletin :D
|
ubb 5.54 :) i hacked the thing up, then moved to 6.0, once on 6.0 i started hacking again, by the time 6.05 came out i had 106 hacks installed, then my server started throwing fits, i told them to leave my files up while i backed them up, i was planing on moving to a php solution, they deleated em, i lost all my work as i dident have a backup (i think because of a format), i started over on vB 2.2.5, and so far im loving it

My forums have been running since 1999... started on UBB 4 series, upgraded to 5 and then 6 series. Experimented with boards such as Yabb, Ultraboard, Ikonboard, phpBB, T-Forum and the like, found vB, bought the 2 series - never looked back!
