Moonwolf 01-08-2002 10:00 PM

This one's in response to a request on http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...threadid=35579

This hack should put a "New Thread" (or whatever text you want) in the forum description for any forum the user can access normally.

Demo site: www.underlight.com

Installer in Post #8 below.

Odd, the syntax checks for whether the user can post, and only if they can will it show the link. Only way I can think of that you'd be getting that is if the category isn't set as one in the CP (Act as Forum == No)

LOL someone had my categorys open for new posts, wasnt me :D

Nice Hack!

Moonwolf 01-10-2002 05:40 PM

The final version of this puts the "New Thread": link in the right hand corner, on the same line as the forum description. Installer below. Should be final. Now if only I could figure out how to move it to the full release section :P

Nice hack, but I can't understand why an installer with DB modification is needed when, as bokhalifa said, it should be necessary a light template mod
???

Thanks a lot.

Moonwolf 01-19-2002 07:52 PM

Because if you just hard code it into the template, it'll show up for every forum, not only the ones that the visitor has access to post in. Easier and more versatile to have it as it's own little template, called from within index.php and showthread.php, and it makes it easier for language conversion too, for those who don't want to hack the php code itself.

Sounds like you need to go to the admin control panel and the forums and moderators.. Find the category and click edit.. Then go down to where it says act as a forum and tell it no.. I don't have it installed but from reading the post thats what I gather from it..:)

fonzerelli_79 02-06-2002 01:13 PM

this is where the problem lies though

the new thread link is going on the forums which have been set to 'no' for act as a forum

What a great time-saving hack, especially for a content-based site like mine. Works great, thanks!!!

sorry

Thanks, I've used it like this in the '_post' templates of the forumdisplay and home. I've added it around the on/off button like this:

Code:

<a href="newthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=newthread&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="{imagesfolder}/$forum[onoff].gif" border="0" alt="Click here to post a new thread to: $forum[title]"></a>

Has anyone else noticed that whenever you put certain php commands in messages here the board converts them... for example I put { imagesfolder } then and it was changed to {imagesfolder}

Great hack. :)

gmarik 06-05-2003 03:37 PM

Can anybody tell me - what does this hack does?
Doen't get the point. Looked at the demo...

Cyricx 06-05-2003 08:56 PM

When viewing your forums page where it lists your forums, it adds a link in the description for posting a new thread in that forum.

Question - Is there a way to set this so it only displays if that person has posting access to the forum?

I have a few forums that members can read and reply in but only moderators can start new threads in.

Unfortunately they see the link and I get a few intellectually challenged ones asking why they have lost their posting access LOL
