They are discontinuing their free service Dec. 15, 2001. :(
They are offering this --> Bannerless Version ($150 for 10,000 sessions). Can someone make a spell checker hack? |
See my sig.

Yed

I'm also worried about this. I heard somewhere that the latest versions of PHP includes a spell checker of some sort... Maybe that could be put to use with this hack?
|
I found this website, which should function with the 'hack' that I released.
http://lsd.pharm.kyoto-u.ac.jp/spell/spellcheck.html It doesn't give suggestions for corrections, but it does tell you which words are not in the dictionary. |
anyone else have a solution?
is it that difficult to integrate a spellcheck into the VB, rather than depending on a service? that would be ideal! |
Well, it's Dec.17 and it's still working.
|
Didn't they say they were discontinuing free service once before?

<a href="http://www.spellcheck.net" target="_blank">spellcheck.net</a> is a much better one. It checks up to 5000 words, and it also provides a list of alt spellings.

PHP4 allows you to add the Aspell rountine to allow for server side spellchecking. It would be really nice if someone could come up with a pop up box that inserts the contests of the message and spellchecks it, then you just upload the new message just like you would a smilie using the Aspell add on.

its official, spellcheck is now defunct. (free service)
I received a rather odd window this morning, that explained the banner service, and advertising was in decrease, so they discontinued the service. Not exactly what i wanted, but i figured I would go over there, and sign up anyways for the ten day trial. well, i downloaded the files needed, uploaded them, (after changing one from proxy.phtml to what was already named by vb as proxy.php, and received a 404 page. Im not sure exactly what VB did, to get this to work in the first place, but many of the new files, were similar to the old files, however, they did have a couple of files in there, that were not part of the spellcheck that Vb added in...so, i dont know...pisses me off just a tad... I suppose its time to crack open the books and try a impossible task of aspell... |
Is there any way to make use of ispell for unix? My webmail program uses that to do it's spellchecking. I'm not really a PHP expert so I don't think i'd be able to make a hack to use ispell, could someone else out there make the hack? I'd be willing to use it once it's made. lol
Thanks... I'm pissed that spellchecker.net no longer offers a free service. Who would pay for a "spellcheck" service. Espically $150, that's a bit steep just to have your posts spell checked. |
Spellcheck is still working on my site.
|
I have a perl spellchecker I wrote a while back that uses ispell/pspell libraries on unix systems. Look out for something soon.

sounds good James. My spellcheck started working again, but with the banners that stipulate that they would be going to a service method on the 15th. The other error that I received hasnt displayed for quite some time now, so I dont know what spellcheck.net is up to.
The one plan that i actually contemplated was 150.00 for 10,000 sessions...and than I got thinking..10,000 sessions on a bulletin board wont take to long to hit, and i believe it was 15.00 a session past that point, so that idea was quickly scrapped. If they were somewhat reasonable on the costs, i wouldnt mind paying for their services. |
Has anyone's free spellchecker.net service suddenly stopped working (returning the 404 error)? I just moved servers, and I'd like to know if it's something I messed up during the move, or whether or not they pulled the plug on free accounts once and for all. :(
