Its a little icon that users can use to donate money to the site and view how much has been donated. Cool thing if you ask me...

I requested this AGES ago.
You would have to incorperate it into a PayPal like system of sending money, I donno, quite difficult.

I would like to see more replies to this "request". This donation box is very cool... make it so top contributors get top placement. This would be great for competing sponsors, etc.

I would like to see merchant service gateway such as authorize.net and paypal.

I would be willing to "donate" funds to have a hack like this for my site.

Also,... when person makes a contribution they can select a category they want their contributor name listed under.. example; anonymous, community member, dealer, distributor, manufacturer, etc., etc.

find a way to use a purchase system that would offer you their info so that you could charge users without having to do to their site and then I could make it for you

simple to create just create a pay pal account, then add an image or text link linking to your account url. I suppose monitoring the ammount you have within your chest would be the hard part.

Yeah, it would be great of paypal could let me download certain info at set intervals, or even sending me an email about it...

Actually, PayPal has a feature called Instant Payment Notification, which could be used for this purpose. In essence, they will call a script at your server with all the info about the payment, and then your script answers back with a code verification to prevent spoofing.

I will be looking in to this sometime soon.

This system would also be used for top contributor link placement.... so, the person or company who donates the most would have top position. ( if desired )

I have a paypal account but would prefer to use my gateway service Authorize.net. ( cheaper fees )

I rufuse to make anything with Pay Pal they jacked me out of $500 for no ++++ing reason and when I tryed to get ahold of them they deleted my account so I couldnt do anything about it.... dont go with pay pal.

Sorry to hear your problems NEO .... but, I still think this is an important addition due to the fact that PayPal has so many users and hard case stories like yours are a very small percentage of their total customer satisfaction.

I thought I heard somewhere that PayPal was publically traded now.?.? If so you would think they would be responsible for giving you answers and a resolution.

I finally just made my own that is integrated with PayPal. It's nothing too extraordinary, but it serves the purpose. If anyone wants to check it out you can go here http://www.modernengineuity.com/forums/index.php and click on the donate link at the bottom of the page.

It's really nothing more than a template with a paypal button. You can specify a return page from PayPal depending on whether or not a payment is made. That may be an option that could be used to accomplish what your looking for. I wish that I could be more help, but I'm still pretty new to this. Too bad we can't get some more knowledgable people involved with this.

I'd love to see this sorta thing too, including the chest idea...

I'd be willing to contribute some funds to the hack creation as well if anyone can figure it out.

I'm working on it as we speak, will probably be a couple of weeks in the making as I've a new baby coming and all, but I'm working on it. Will need some testers later on before I "go live" with it.

Right now I'm dealing with the integration back end of Paypal's payment notification. Once that's done I'll worry about look and feel and usability ;)

For now tho, I'm thinking of simply a top ten contributor's list just for testing purposes. Will add to it as I progress.

UPDATE:

I got the IPN working. Paypal sends transactions to your server then the page reflects the information back. If all match then Paypal returns the word "VERIFIED". When the script sees this it adds all the information you could ever want (except phone #s) to the database. If they don't match, Paypal returns the word "INVALID". If the script sees this or any other number of suspicious activities, then it sends an email to the admin of the site, and places the information in a seperate table for admin to investigate.

The username issue will not be a problem as most of us use the email verification system native to VB to avoid spammers, so both the email from Paypal and the board *should* be the same, however, if not, then there will be a field for the username to be added.

I'm looking at the main page containing the donate links, the top ten donations (including member name if applicable), with the option to show total amount donated, along with another optional feature to show where the $$$ has gone to (I'm thinking that it will make the users more comfortable knowing where the $$$ is going, especially for non-profit sites like my own).

Is there anything else you guys would like me to add so I can drop it in my "ToDo" list?
