We've just upgraded this forum to verion 2.2.1.
We deeply apologize if any of you got errors during the upgrade, it's inevitable. :)

Cool, well done Firefly :)

Jakeman 11-17-2001 10:41 PM

these forums seem much faster now... especially the front page. did you do some optimizing?

Admin 11-18-2001 05:01 AM

Yup, we did.
We also cleared the database of all old posts, and reindexed everything. :)

over 11-18-2001 08:03 PM

nice job on the upgrade :) got a wee q, with all the hacks this board has, doesn't it take ages and a few painkillers for after

Baratator 11-18-2001 09:18 PM

great job firefly :)

could you give me tips for optimising my board too ?

Admin 11-19-2001 04:21 AM

over, using Araxis Merge it took me about 10 minutes to reinstate all hacks.
Then it was just a matter of uploading new files and running the upgrade script.

Baratator, I would but I don't know much about it. :o

It's a nice program, but for $124.00 it's way overpriced for my taste.

That's where Beyond Compare comes in. It works well enough and it's only $30. :)

netleader 11-20-2001 10:22 AM

2.21 good

I just got this but it seems to be like a big learning curve. Can you explain the easiest way to re-install existing hacks with it?

Admin 11-21-2001 07:21 AM

Extract the upload/ folder from the zip file into a folder named original221.
Now use Araxis to compare with the original221 folder, and your current forum (if you don't have it offline, download it).

Now you'll see all the files in the folders.
Files that have the blue color means there are changes in those files.

Double click on the blue files, one by one, and copy all the changes over.
Making sure you don't ruin any of your existing hacks.

That's it really.

I prefer to use an orignal version before and an original new version and look at the differences instead of looking at the hacked old one and a new one as the hacks will also show in differences and its hard to remember if you installed a hack which changed that or is it a bug fix.

Your way is better, PPN, for users that don't really know their way around vBulletin yet, so it's easier to see the changes in vBulletin without the hacking.

But for me it's just easier, and also takes less time. :)

Scott MacVicar 11-21-2001 04:05 PM

Its very quick if its just a bug fix release but when it was from 2.0.3 to 2.2.0 I simply re-installed the hacks it was far simplier as there was so many new bits of code and changes due to the security audit taking place.

Sinecure 11-21-2001 05:19 PM

I still haven't upgraded since 2.0.3. I will upgrade once my new board design is complete :)

SFishy 11-23-2001 02:12 PM

Not sure if any of you use UltraEdit for HTML/PHP/programming code (I LOVE IT!), but the newest versions have a compare utility built right in, and I BELIEVE it's based on Beyond Compare :D

SirSteve 11-23-2001 02:17 PM

Araxis Merge is NICE! It too me about 30 min because it was my first time but everything seems to be working!

The only problem I find with this method is I haven't written down most of my code changes. :o
