Members log and get blank page.
 
For the second time I have had a Host totally shatter my site and have to rebuild it. The site is up and running but some users cannot reach the site. I can replicate the problem by using google chrome. I am using Firefox and I can reach the site. I cannot reach my site with Chrome. What could possibly be the issue that wont allot Chrome and IE to reach the site.

The www.hangin-out.net page isn’t working

www.hangin-out.net is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500

When I use an AOL browser it says
http://www.hangin-out.net/login.php?do=login cannot be found. I just reinstalled all new files and I still cannot reach the site with chrome.


What setting or file do I need to alter in the site to allow all browsers to reach the site, like before the site was rebuilt

Any ideas?

How long ago did you change your DNS records or create your domain name? It usually takes a couple of hours to a couple of days for the records to propagate around the world.

It works fine in Chrome here by the way. Clear the cache of your Chrome and it should work on your computer as well.

Clearing the cache, restarting, deleting cookies, nothing works. I just did all that and i still cannot log in. I can reach the log in page, but loggin in leads to a blank page

I get the same blank page after trying to log into admin cp from firefox. I have to go into other pages to get the Admincp link to work at the bottom of th page. One user could only access the site after using the google recover password page. He searched the site on google and use that link. Its almost like the actual log in page is broken for some people and browsers, but you can knock it loose by going to the log in from a different page. I dont know if that makes sense. Try to log into the site using chrome

Alright well the 500 internal server error is usually caused by PHP.
Are you able to check the error logs of your web-server/PHP? Maybe that will tell you what's going on.
Sometimes the "error_log" file is also stored in the root of your website.

Hmm that one is the webserver error logs, it doesn't contain anything useful in this case.
Is there an error_log file in the root of your website (usually in public_html)? See if that contains anything useful.

Thats how someone installed it. Im an organic chemist. I didnt install the site. I just got the same blank page using firefox while trying to log into admin cp. Something is wrong.

What do you see wrong with that path? It looks just like the path on my old server.

To the OP, try disabling your modifications/plugins and see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit includes/config.php and add this line right under <?php

I can log in with chrome now. What did that just accomplish. How do I fix the real problem. What is the problem? WHat problem did I just create by disableing hooks?

All of that is not related to any 500 errors though.

Have you checked if the file /home/hanginou/public_html/error_log exists? See what it contains if so.
Else ask your host for the PHP error logs.

Disabling hooks disables all of your plugins and hooks, so this is caused by one of your installed plugins or hooks.
Disable your plugins one by one until the issue disappears.

While probably not related to you current problem, those messages indicate a badly set-up apache, and should be addressed.

My members still can not log in. I accidentally delteted the log from the public html folder a few days ago. I just checked it and this is what is here. Does this help? Are these errors related to disableing hooks and not my real problem at all?

My host has indicated the link provided is not for the correct OS. Can you please review and provide the correct information. Im not sure why they cant look it up, but they asked.

From my host:

I just realized the tech provided you with a url for Ubuntu, not CentOS - your VPS uses CentOS. Are they trying to install the wrong software (before I proceed and unintentionally overwrite files). If their support provided you the wrong software, we could potentially permanently damage your site. Thank you.

Ok I am going to need some help with this. My host has sent me this email and Im not sure what to make of it. He is asking your folks for something. Does this make sense?

if you could, as you are verified user of the software, submit a support ticket to them asking if a) why your .htaccess is blank and b) provide instructions on writing one (they should come back with an htaccess configured for your site, provide the phpinfo.php page above to expedite the process) and let me know if they require anything on the host side of the software (probably not). If it's an open thread, a simple copy and paste of the url is sufficient - I can't, as I don't own the software, or I'd do it for you. Thank you.

Start looking for another host, this one sounds terrible.
It takes 30 seconds to install the JSON module for PHP on Centos.
(Why would they even install PHP without it, its a common requirement).

Why are they asking about .htaccess files ?
Its irrelevant to the problem.
vB3 does not even need an htaccess file.

How does doing their job "compromise their support queue".

In fact, what are they even going on about, what have you asked them to install ?
