Notification issues
Recently upgraded to vB4.2.3
Many of our forum members are reporting an issue that I'm seeing also. In the notifications box, there's a 1 that shows up like it would if I had a PM. When I click on this, it pops up a box that has "1 Reputation Comment" in it When I click on the link, it takes me to a page that says "Subscribed Threads with New Posts" I can't remove the darned notification either. It seems to be cross linking the Reputation Comment with Subscribed Threads. How do I rectify this? |
bumpity bump.
Anyone have any thoughts? |
You should be able to clear it by executing the following query in PHPMyAdmin or at AdminCP > Maintenance > Execute SQL Query:
PHP Code:
|
Thank you.
And I get this: "You are not authorized to execute SQL queries" LOL! My own site won't let me play. That's got to be some permissions setting in my profile... Must have been from the original owner of the site (it was dropped on me). |

Okay, so now I can't find the setting to allow me to do that.
Thoughts? One step forward, three back... --------------- Added [DATE]1458666144[/DATE] at [TIME]1458666144[/TIME] --------------- Quote:

The config.php file can be found at /includes/config.php.
Add your userid to superadministrators and canrunqueries. ;) |
You should also be able to run that query through your phpmyadmin/cpanel/whatever interface to the db.

Not finding that directory & file.
Once once again, I ask - this is though my host file management, not through admincp? I want to make sure I'm in the correct spot --------------- Added [DATE]1458667220[/DATE] at [TIME]1458667220[/TIME] --------------- Sorry to be so dense - but when you don't know, you have to ask to finally figure it out, right? We all start at the beginning... --------------- Added [DATE]1458667463[/DATE] at [TIME]1458667463[/TIME] --------------- Found it - public_html/forum/includes Now what do I do with this file? Open it in an editor or is it an executable? I've clicked on it and nothing. right click gives options like download, view, edit, edit code I'll download and mess with it - see what I can figure out. |
Download the file. Open it in a good text editor like Notepad++ or Sublime. Don't use WordPad. Edit only the UserID fields between the brackets. Save the document. Upload it and overwrite the existing config.php file.
|
okay, that's the direction I was thinking.
I know the original user's info, so I'll copy what's there and add myself in. I'll let this thread know how it goes in a few... --------------- Added [DATE]1458670244[/DATE] at [TIME]1458670244[/TIME] --------------- Okay, I need help. This is part of the config file: // ****** MASTER DATABASE USERNAME & PASSWORD ****** // This is the username and password you use to access MySQL. // These must be obtained through your webhost. $config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'amergin_****'; $config['MasterServer']['password'] = '****'; and this is all I find regarding Super Administrator: // ****** SUPER ADMINISTRATORS ****** // The users specified below will have permission to access the administrator permissions // page, which controls the permissions of other administrators $config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = '1,1939,75406'; What do I need to do to make me a Super Admin? |
You need to put your userID in this line, between the single quotation marks, separated by commas from the other userIDs. I hope you know who those other users are. If not, they need to be removed.
$config['SpecialUsers']['superadministrators'] = '1,1939,75406'; |
got it! I was able to cross ref the first two, not sure about the third. I am the second one.
So I'm a superadmin - but it's not playing nice... I was able to log into the forum with the original owner/developer's info and even his wasn't allowed to go mod the SQL. |

$config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = '1'; line in the config.php file? |
I'll have to look
--------------- Added [DATE]1458682435[/DATE] at [TIME]1458682435[/TIME] --------------- That' one's empty. I'll go put the two id numbers in it and upload a bit later. Thank you. I'm getting an understanding of the structure of the config file - like I said, learning and fortunately capable of it. --------------- Added [DATE]1458688273[/DATE] at [TIME]1458688273[/TIME] --------------- Well, that didn't change a thing. Maybe I'm not in the right directory? public_html/forum/includes/config.php was the file I played with (and fortunately nothing seems to have gone boom) |
So, does anyone have any thoughts on my config.php file mods? I did the changes like I was told, but I'm wondering if it's in the correct directory.
See directory location in above post. |
