Usergroup Legend with Links To FAQ

Overview:

This product allows you to display a legend of selected usergroups in your WGO block, directly below the list of users who have visited the site recently. You may link each usergroup name to an FAQ item if you have such items defined to describe certain usergroups. You may choose to strip the trailing "s" from the usergroup names in case the usergroup names are plural, but you want the singular to show in the legend. You may choose to simply delimit the list with commas, or choose one from 10 special characters, or enter you own custom character(s). You may choose the size of the delimiter as a percentage of the default font-size. You may assign any custom CSS to the legend's usergroup list.

Updates:

Version 1.1:

Added setting for the control of the delimiter CSS.

Version 1.2:

Legend is only visible for users that can either see who is online or can see who has visited.

Version 1.2.1:

Fixed bug with diamond delimiter.

Version 1.3:

Added setting to allow for image as custom delimiter.

Compatibility:

Tested and working on VB 4.2.x and should work on all 4.x versions of vBulletin.

Backup/Warning:

This product does not alter your database, however it is always good practice to make regular backups and you should make a backup before installing ANY new mod.

To Install:

Download and extract the attached .zip file.
Follow AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product.
Click on "Choose File" and browse to the product .xml file that was packaged in the .zip file.
Click "Import."
You MUST enable the product in the settings before it will function.
Configure the remaining settings to your liking. Each setting has a detailed explanation of its use.

Mark very nice.
Some questions to small issues.

a) When i use "Custom Delimiter" than character is shown at the begin to.
- Administrator - Supermoderator - Moderator, an so on.

b) is there a way to trim icons to be at the left of usergroups (closer) and not in the middle.
This because i use color code for each usergroup, so every icon(star) has other color
and when its in the middle its not good for me.

It was an easy change to make, so I went ahead and did it.

Yes, when you use a delimiter other than a comma, then it appears to the left of each usergroup. :)

Last think to remind you, when ever make an update, and its easy don't forget to include an option "Usergroups can NOT view VILXH box (comma separated ID list)" Visitors are better not to see this.

This was always an awesome addition to MHB that I loved. Nicely done. :)

nothing showing for me 4.2.3 would using e360 html markup cause an issue maybe?

It's possible another mod could be in conflict with this one...I would be happy to come to your site and troubleshoot, if you want. If so, PM to me the credentials for an admin account. :)

yea no prob, i disabled all mods and still nothing... selecting diamond after saving it goes back to comma i noticed

Yes, I tried it and got the same thing...but was able to fix it. Once I know the issue at your site, I will post an update of the product.

I fixed the diamond character issue, with the latest update.

For everyone's information, the issue at trollshroom's site was a missing template hook in the FORUMHOME template...so I edited the plugin to use another, and all is good now. :)

Any way to add the option to add a thread link rather than a FAQ link?

I don't plan to change that...it seems to me the best place to place information about staff is the FAQ. :)

No worries, I'm using the FAQ system, but also going a different approach for other FAQ's in the forums. :)

It may not be compatible with vB 4.1.x, or there could be a product conflict. Unfortunately, I don't have a vB 4.1.x dev site to test. :(

I've installed it on multiple vB 4.2.3 sites with success. In order for the usergroup legend to display, you have to have the display of "Currently Active Users" and/or the display of "Total members that have visited the forum today" turned on.

To see if you have "Currently Active Users" turned on, follow:

AdminCP -> Settings -> Options -> Forum Home: Options

Check the setting "Display Logged in Users?" and see which option you have chosen.

To see if you have "Total members that have visited the forum today" turned on, follow:

AdminCP -> Settings -> Options -> Forum Home: Visiting Members

Check the setting "Enable Display" and see which option you have chosen.

If you don't have either of these options turned on, then the usergroup legend won't display, since no users are being displayed in the "What's Going On?" block.

This product depends on the following line being present in the "FORUMHOME" template:

If this has been removed from the template in any of your styles, then it won't work.

which I commented out before installing the MOD, but as I said above, it didn't work for me. Suggestions?

What does your complete "FORUMHOME" template have?

I think I "see" my problem.

My modification placed my legend below Currently Active Users. I keep Total members that have visited the forum in the last 24 hours: minimized, so I wouldn't have seen your legend. << Update: Not true. I just didn't notice the new 'section'. ;/

If I want your legend to show in place of mine; below Currently Active Users; what change to the .xml would I have to make?

Okay, reloaded the MOD. Expanding Total members that have visited the forum in the last 24 hours: now shows the Usergroup Legend, but doesn't show anything but the Legend Delimiter I selected (Diamond).

How do you add a Custom Delimiter? I tried pointing to a .png image I have in /images, but that doesn't work; it results in the path being displayed in the legend and not the image. Does this 'option' use ASCII values only, or??

Yes, it's set up to use characters, not images. :)
