I was looking through functions.php and I found this :

Code:

// ###################### Start gettextareawidth #######################
function gettextareawidth() {
// attempts to fix idiotic Nutscrape textarea width problems

Looks like Jelsoft doesn't like Nutscrape either.

Admin 11-03-2001 01:46 PM

Can you really blame them? ;)

Neo 11-03-2001 02:49 PM

lol, i do dislike nutscape, damn thing wont show my logo image..

apfeifer 11-03-2001 03:08 PM

Haha, that's great! :D

Neo 11-03-2001 04:05 PM

well its only true, i have worked with forum coding and using netscape is a +++++:stoned:

ethank 11-03-2001 04:26 PM

I've determined that Netscape 4.7 is the incarnation of satan. Talk about messing up all your grand design schemes. I'm thinking of doing a special styleset for Netscape users that has a big banner up top:

USE A REAL F**KING BROWSER PLEASE!

:)

Luckily we're down to only 8% using NS4.7, the rest on IE or NS6

Ethan

I hate nutscrape too

and when my site doesn't work with their nutscrape 4.6 (they refuse to upgrade any higher) the nutscrape users wine to me "It won't work in my precious nutscrape"

Dalius 11-03-2001 05:19 PM

*scrapes nuts*

FWC 11-03-2001 05:23 PM

Nutscrape is a pain in the butt. I installed one hack and everything looked great. I got to work the next morning and discovered you couldn't see anything but the header in Nutscrape. I managed to fix it, but it was no fun.

Shouldnt Nutscrape be a pain in the nuts?
*hears a crappy sitcom show audience laugh*

eva2000 11-03-2001 06:27 PM

LOL!! I added some mouseover effects one time that everybody loved. Then this one Nutscrape guy starts complaining that they worked fine in Scrape 4.7, but he was having problems in Scrape 6.0. He wanted me to remove them. He got jumped on by eveybody else. They told him they weren't giving up cool stuff so he could use a piece of crap. It was hysterical. :)

Sinecure 11-04-2001 03:53 AM

Is there anyone who actually likes Netscrape?? Maybe Jakeman :D hehe jk

apfeifer 11-04-2001 01:13 PM

You do have to give Nutscrape credit for one thing, they follow all of the guidelines for HTML. That's why most people find it so hard to code for it. IE, on the other hand, isn't quite as strict with the HTML guidelines so people like it better. Now don't get me wrong here, I still don't like Nutscrape.:)

Palmer ofShinra 11-04-2001 06:17 PM

Follow the guidelines?

Give me a break... they don't even properly support CSS STILL.

Opera follows it better.

afterlab 11-06-2001 12:33 AM

hehe.. Well if ya a fan of ShinraOnline, check out their FAQ.

>>1. I'm an idiot and I am using Netscape, which makes everything look all funky. Does that make me a loser?
Why, yes. Yes it does. Because the rest of the world uses Internet Explorer. Netscape has a lot of limitations, including having no marquee ( ticker-tape ) code, and a dysfunction in tables.<<

Interesting, yet true. Ouch. :D

HAHA :D

Bender 11-06-2001 11:16 AM

I like netscape - as long as I don't have to write tables for it... or use it for surfing ... everythings fine ;)
Well, once Netscape was the browser that followed guidelines, but these times are past :D

They follow very few of the guidelines, actually. They are just as bad as MS in terms of proprietary extensions/coding. Also their engine has severe issues rendering tables nested more than 3 deep. Mozilla is somewhat better but still has major flaws that often lead to a different look for the same page every time it is rendered.

Jakeman 11-07-2001 07:26 AM

hehe @ sin

actually in the classic mac os environment netscape has much faster page rendering and text scrolling when compared to IE in the same environment. but it is still plagued by the same issues the pc side has with web page layout and such. plus it tends to get nasty memory leaks and can crash often. memory leaks meaning the RAM the app was using isn't freed up after quitting the app. i'm certain that the classic mac os's crappy memory management is partly responsible, but NS "leaks" more than other apps.

damicatz 11-08-2001 08:48 PM

Netscape has been getting worse recently and my sites always appear messed up in it. Especially the ones that use CSS.

Netscape 6.0 is better at rendering but is bloaty and crashes a lot for me. Plus it takes forever to load. Netscape 4x can't render a page worth beans.

cyrus 11-17-2001 10:20 AM

I HATE nutscrape .... its the reason why yahoo wouldnt accept my site onto their pages ... said that my site wasnt compatible with soe browsers !!! WHO CARES !!! I use IE as well as all the clever people out there, I dont want dumb nutscrape people on my site anyway !!!
