Anyone found any further developments on how best to design for android or any other mobile device?
Any advice also would be welcomed.

Thanks all. . .

I would go with responsive theme

it's the best for all mobile devices.

Thanks for that but I am not aware of any responsive theme for vB4 otherwise problem solved.

i prefer tapatalk. most users who are often mobile online use it already.

But that would mean people would have to download it. This doesn't sound appealing to the casual passer by.

I also use Tapatalk but only for lack of a better option. I use one of the light weight themes here in combination with Tapatalk and Forumrunner but I would love a responsive option as well for Vb4.

I am not intending to highjack this but I think this question is related. Who has submitted their mobile app's/pages to Itunes and elsewhere?

I've always found the vb4 mobile theme to be the most efficient interface for mobile albeit needs to be themed to match the forums custom theme to look right. I never cared for tapatalk or forum runner.

Is anyone working on anything better? Perhaps a bootstrap theme?

Max Taxable 10-26-2015 04:28 PM

The person who incorporates bootstrap into vBulletin successfully will have 100s of paying customers for it.

Some sharp coder or style designer, start here:

http://getbootstrap.com/css/

Need it for 3.8.x and 4.2.x and up. I will pay some of the development dollars.

I started on a bootstrap theme... it will take a very long time though.
Pretty much all templates have to be modified, which might break any plugins and other customization's.

I had this idea that we wouldn't change what the vB style calls for, we would change the bootstrap terms to match, instead?

I WILL help finance this development. PM me please.

vB 4 is worth the development. I am sure it will pay off and probably be ready before the other one.

v4 has its mobile solution most people are happy with. The market is for v3.8B - B as in Bootstrap.

BUT - the v4 people simply don't know what they are missing so if you think you can get a v4.2B style ready first, what's the holdup? Money I gots. We can work on a v3.8B after.

Apologies for the confusion, I am not a coder type. I am just a person that thinks 4 would benefit hugely if someone was to commit some time to bringing it up to date with a responsive theme.

Both versions would, I definitely agree. Problem is most v4 owners I have seen out there are satisfied with the native mobile version.

I see. Thanks for that.
Is it possible to style the mobile version?

Yeah it's not really any different than any other style, in that regard. You can change the templates, and edit the stylevars all day.

Understand we're talking the native v4 mobile style here, not the mobile suite.

tommythejoat 10-30-2015 04:10 PM

Why is the Mobile Suite not appropriate?

I have been looking for an in depth review of its features and faults for a couple of years now and it is becoming more important as the mobile users increase.

Attachment management seems to be the most persistens problem for the default mobile style in 4.2.

We also have many mobile device users who cannot get their heads around not being able to drag and drop images and perhaps other attachments into the edit window.

I didn't see anyone saying anything bad about it.
