What does the Install button actually do?

MrLister 10-31-2001 01:57 AM

it tells the creator and the rest of the people on how many boards is it installed. so if you install the hack it would really be good if you could also click on it so that way the creator can know he's making a difference. if you uninstall it then go back to the hack and click uninstall.

it's quite a neat feature

Sinecure 10-31-2001 02:07 AM

That it is, Firefly was the mastermind behind that intuitive idea :)
I made the buttons though:china:

Nmare 10-31-2001 02:10 AM

Thats cool. I like how it shows how many people have installed it, thats always helpful.
I like the new site, great job!!

Bane 10-31-2001 02:29 AM

It also allows the creator to update those who have installed the hack with updates/releases/fixes. So just one more reson to click :)

Sinecure 10-31-2001 02:31 AM

Very true bane. It in essence, gives the creator of the hack more give and take on who is using the hack and giving essential updates , instead of emailing each individual user. What a burden that would be :)

MrLister 10-31-2001 03:23 AM

It's an awsome hack but it sux that some ppl won't participate

Prolex 10-31-2001 03:32 AM

I agree..It would be better if more users did participate....But it does give an awesome advantage to the hack creator to accept ideas/bugs about his or her hacks... It also lets him or her manage all the users that have installed the hack...

MarkB 10-31-2001 03:38 AM

Would it be better if the buttons read 'installed' or 'uninstalled' so new users won't think it's a way to get the hack, instead of what it's actually used for?

(does that make sense? )

Bane 10-31-2001 03:40 AM

Makes perfect sense Mark. Too much sense in fact. Prepare to be punished!

It is more work for Sin that way though, so it ain't all bad :p

Sinecure 10-31-2001 03:47 AM

LOL, it used to say "installed" and "uninstalled", however I made the decision to make it into "install" and "uninstall" because the previous sounds like the status of it. For example, "Installed" sounds as though the hack is already installed..

Banes right, more work = bad :pirate:

MarkB 10-31-2001 03:50 AM

Then perhaps have something like:

Have you installed this hack? Yes No

I can just imagine all these people confused about it and not clicking the 'install' graphic, and therefore not showing accurate numbers.

Or something :)

And come on - ya just pulled this amazing site outta ya butt, two more graphic tweaks won't kill ya :p LOL

I thought that was the point? :)

Bane 10-31-2001 04:05 AM

lol, I like the have you installed this hack YES NO! Reminds me of my childhood where I would pass notes to my sweety. Do you <3 Me? Circle YES or NO!

MarkB 10-31-2001 06:10 AM

LOL

Ok, perhaps not ;)

MrLister 10-31-2001 02:08 PM

:D only thread with two buttons.. i'm not used not having a button for new thread inside a thread....

SWFans.net 10-31-2001 02:51 PM

I have kind of a mini-suggestion/request. Its not something that I think has to be done, but it is something that I would find helpful.

This is in regards to the I have installed this Hack link:

Would it be possible to add a list of the threads where we have chosen that we have installed the hack to our user control panel? It would make the process of reapplying them after an upgrade much easier if we could come here, go into our control panel, and easily locate all the hacks we have installed. Just a random thought no absolute requirement to have it.

Or something :)

I agree - on several things!

Amazing site - yes, look 10/10 usefulness 10/10 usability 8/10

I (being a spanner) clicked the "install" graphic, wondering what it did - though it may take me to some fancy script that would magically help me install the hack...or something...didn't actually know what it was for.
I realised the error of my ways a couple of seconds after clicking it....but alas too late. A poor misguided hacker is under the impression I've installed something I haven't :( (although I do plan to).

Admin 11-01-2001 01:04 PM

Thanks for the feedback Chamber. :)
Don't forget there is also an Uninstall link, to revert that.

If you have any better ideas for the button text, I'm sure Sinecure would love to hear them!

Thank you good sir. I will find that feature very helpful. You are without a doubt, one of my idols when it comes to quality of hacks and their practical uses.

Goes off to prepare to install the vBpad hack.

Yeah.. I thought whenever it said Installed that it meant you installed that hack on this Forum. I understand now, so don't get all p-oed at me. :D

Just go to the same thread...

Where the "Install" button was, it's now UNINSTALL which removes you from the install list.

cditty 11-22-2001 10:40 PM

Is this "hack" available to everyone? If so, can someone please point me to it? I plan to use this for a favorite thread tracking feature.

Chris
