Reset

Greetings.

How does one go about resetting the forums and starting from scratch but keeping the structure in place? Is it just a matter of deleting all threads and renaming topics? And attachments, are they just to be deleted?
Or is there a click option that performs the whole operation in one action?

Thanks all. :p

The one operation would be to re-install the database to new, but keeping the structure is the long way and requires you delete all posts manually.

You can prune all threads and users very easily. Update counters when done under maintenance.

Cheers all.

I will do the pruning option. Eventhough there aren't that many, deleting posts manually doesn't thrill me too much.

You can backup your attachments manually if required, but it will not point to any thread/user as you are about to prune the same..
While pruning threads, attachments will be cleared as well.

Yeah, no need to keep attachments if deleting the threads and posts. :D

As above.

I want to make a completely fresh start at some point and that means wiping the whole board.

Cheers all.

a new db might help in that case.. ?
if you do not want any x info

cellarius 04-29-2015 04:44 PM

Honestly, if you want to do it cleanly, just wipe the database and start really fresh. it is not clear at all what you mean by "keeping the structure". What strucutre?

DemOnstar 04-29-2015 10:55 PM

A new DB. Would that not mean I lose the structure? (by structure I mean the way it is set up, permissions, promotions, all the fiddly bits, groups etc) Topics and threads will find their way back eventually but all the other things going on behind, I don't want to be setting that lot up again.

ForceHSS 04-29-2015 10:58 PM

If you do a full wipe and reinstall you would lose it all. If you want to keep the structure then you would need to delete all posts first then all users unless you want to keep them

And this.

Perhaps structure was the wrong word? How about set up? :D

Splendid. . .

Its hard to help someone when its hard to understand them :)

SaN-DeeP 05-01-2015 06:37 PM

Its too easy to help any person requesting for technical support, in case he is able to explain his problems in easiest way a developer can understand..

Can you tell you what exactly you want to do saving structure ? *I assume you definetly want to delete all the threads/posts/users/attachments.*
1. Some complex vbulletin configuration settings you have made ?
2. You want to save all the forums.
3. Any other thing you are trying to elaborate ?

DemOnstar 05-04-2015 12:36 PM

Nothing to elaborate on thanks.

I think now I have the solution.
