SEO

Hi

I'm not using SEO, never thought anything of it.

Is it worth doing?

Whats the best mod to use for vB3?

hhumas 12-17-2014 06:41 PM

DragonByte Tech's replacement for VBSEO, yes.

Available here.

I wouldn't necessarily add it to your vb 3 forum right now. What is your URL, there is likely things that can be done for free to help out with your sites SEO.

DBSEO has a free version. :)

Brandon Sheley 12-17-2014 10:51 PM

Yes it does.. but it also alters your forum and url's... It would be better to do things right the first time, vs just using a "seo" mod because it makes pretty URL's. ;)
Also no one thought vbseo would vanish so soon, what's not to say db's does as well and then everyone who added it will be in the same situation as those who added vbseo years ago.

That is a good point. A few years ago there used to be some tutorials on doing this on your own for free. But I cannot find them anymore.

It does alot more than just that, and that is also optional and customizable.

DBSEO is a full-on search engine optimization tool. Not just a pretty URL maker.

But please all understand - just because I posted about it here does not mean I recommend you install it. Like Brandon says there ARE quite a few little bits you can do yourself or have him do, that do not require installation of a Modification.

ALWAYS undertake a FULL study of ANY mod, before installing including reading ALL the posts in the Mod thread.

ozzy47 12-17-2014 10:57 PM

Yeah, any tme you rely on any mod, you have a chance of the developer leaving, or not updating things beyond security patches.

Brandon Sheley 12-17-2014 11:06 PM

I'm fully aware of what the dbseo mod does, I've installed it on client sites before both the paid version and free.

There are some articles here at the org but I didn't find them with a quick search.
I did find this one that will work on a vb 3 forum.

Yeah it is not something that might be totally necessary, make sure you really want to commit to it before you do it. :)

HA! Doing the happy dance I found the links I was looking for. Check this out, they have lots of good info here for making your vBulletin SEO ready without other mods... http://www.vbulletin-faq.com/forum/f...our-vBulletin&

The thing is if you have had this site up for awhile and have many threads, articles etc which it looks like you do, then now going back and adding SEO can be a bit more complicated than if you did it to begin with when you first launched your web site. So you would not only have to put the SEO stuff in place but also re-route all your current traffic to the new url's if you plan on installing something that changes the URL'S. This is something to think about as it can be a bit more work in the long run.

I'd suggest looking over the vb-faq link that hm666 posted.
There are several things you can do that aren't "changing the url", like working on your header tags for starters.
