Registering problems
Hi Guys
Keep getting emails to the admin account for registering problems. They keep saying no matter what username they choose, it says it's not available. Anyone any ideas? Dave |
have you tried disabling all plugins via config or testing it yourself

Yes tried it there now with all the mods disabled, just tells you no matter what username you use it says already in use......Totally has me! |
Did you check the username related options under User Registration Options? Do you have anything entered for Username Regular Expresson?
Edit: do you see the message next to where you first enter the username, or after the form is submitted? |

You see the message as you type in a username, I know most usernames. But anything I tried to use it just says it's taken! |
What version of vB and PHP are you running?
Does this happen on a unmodified default style? Did you ask your host if anything has changed on the server around the time this started happening? |
This is going back a bit, I have had a couple of emails regarding this. But I haven't had much time to spend on the forums of late.
Latest version available: 4.2.2 Patch Level 2 PHP: 5.3.29 php has been on that for a while now, server hasn't changed. Style: My style is more or less stock, with colour changes etc. |
Is the forum you're talking about the one in your sig? I'm getting a blank page there.
|
I would try without the regular expression and see what happens.
If that don't work, download the zip file for v4.2.2 Patch Level 2 from vB.com, and overwrite the files on the server to make sure none of them are messed up. |
Yeah KH99, fixing that now, it's related to one of my mods...
Edit, it's my vb_cmps that's doing that. goto here nirc.co.uk/forum.php |
I tried to look at the ajax response, but for some reason I didn't see anything. Did you try ignoring the message and seeing if you can register anyway? I'm wondering if it's just a problem with the username check.
|
Yes it won't let you register...
|
Hmm...you could try without the regular expression like Ozzy suggested. I'm out of ideas.
|
I'll try that now :(
That seems to have fixed it. Removing these: ^[A-Z0-9 ]+$' from this Username Regular Expression |
Was that last ' actually there? That's probably your problem. Someone must have accidentally added that.
|
Yes, not sure how it ended up in there....
|
Yeah I would think it is the ' causing the issue.
