What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

* It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified whenever new updates are available.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

* Marking a modification as installed also helps me know how many people are using my work, giving me extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications.

What I tend to find is if they can't post links, they will post the link in words like
vbulletin dot org and so on

But I guess if a spammer really want to get over things they will one way or another.
Nice mod though...

Firyou 08-27-2014 03:17 AM

Hey ozzy, nice mod. Would you recommend using this as an extra layer with your "era of spam" tutorial?

That may be true, but then it is not a live link on the site. :)

You can, this will hinder any human spammers that make it through. :)

Alan_SP 08-27-2014 10:03 AM

Just to mention, I just had 3 spammers register to my site, they each putted one post with link.

Strange thing is that I use layers of spam protection, including the fact my forum isn't in English. I removed posts, banned them, but mod such as this is always welcome to have.

ozzy47 08-27-2014 10:05 AM

Yeah sometimes the rouge human spammer does make it through, so this will help with them posting live links. :)

Thanks for marking as installed. :)

Any chance to update to exclude the links typed in words? It looks like only way to go through by spammers. Probably impossible but...

Anyway a mod is very useful and marked as installed :)

ozzy47 09-10-2014 08:52 AM

Not quite sure what you mean, you have a example?

Marcin1 09-10-2014 09:08 AM

www vbulletin org

I've had a similar example on my board last night (different address was used by a new member in new topic). It was a pure advertisement.

ozzy47 09-10-2014 09:22 AM

Is that with or without the dot?

Marcin1 09-10-2014 09:25 AM

Without the dot

It it cointains the dot a mod works perfectly.

ozzy47 09-10-2014 09:27 AM

Yeah I don't know if there is much I can do about that, but I can look into it at some point.

Marcin1 09-10-2014 09:33 AM

Just a small correction.

If is www . vbulletin . org the links are also allowed.

I tested now on a test user.

ozzy47 09-10-2014 09:35 AM

Yeah there is always ways around things, but I will see what I can do, if anything when I get some free time. I am a bit busy right now debugging some other things for people.

I just had a new registration email me as he was unable to activate his registration. I tested the registration process and found that this mod was preventing activation of registration. This mods error message would show when clicking the activation link or pasting it in the web browser.
Once I deactivated this mod the registration activation worked normally.

Hmmm, can you upload these files, overwriting the old ones, and re test.

CharlieDelta 09-13-2014 04:11 PM

Same result

ozzy47 09-13-2014 04:29 PM

Hmmm, I am using this mod without that issue. Are you using some kind of welcome post other than mine?

Ok let's try these files then.

Then if it does work, try posting links in a post with a user that should not be able to.

CharlieDelta 09-13-2014 04:54 PM

Great!
Activation worked and the new user I registered with my test was not able to post links.

I am using DBT advanced registration which creates a welcome thread.

ozzy47 09-13-2014 04:57 PM

Ahhh, I bet they did not set that as a automated message, so it is blocking it.

I will update the product later today with the new files. :)

CharlieDelta 09-13-2014 04:58 PM

Thank you sir.
