Ok take a look at my gaming forum

Yes another gaming forum but I have been at it since 2003 off and on. This is my latest project and hopefully something I can stick with. www.thegamelands.org

Wow, that's very blue....ish.
I think you should use less blue and change the background color of the footer as well.

plubius 07-06-2014 01:50 PM

ok, thanks, will look into all these suggestions.

I agree with the too much blue. I like the grid look though.

I like the style.

There are 2 things i would suggest to change:
  1. The width of the forum, because some forum names has longer titles. Now the longer titles are broken down into 2 lines.
  2. The header banner. It's a little wider then the forum.

CarpCharacin 01-19-2015 02:03 AM

sorry to say, but the blue background literally makes me feel like i am about to barf.

HM666 01-19-2015 06:04 PM

First, sorry to say, does not look much like a gaming forum. As for the skin I'd say start over, buy a premium skin, or hire someone to create a gaming skin for you. The background is too bright and its blinding. The header is too big its stretched too far across the top and hangs over on both sides. There are quite a few uneven places in the skin.

The forum background I guess can be changed to something better, that is my only point against your website.

How did you get the forum sections to appear horizontally?
Is it in the vbulletin settings?
Is it due to a modification?
Is it due to the style?

I really like that, and I'd like that on my forum (vB4).

P.S=
I agree with HM666,

The homepage itself in my opinion can use quite a few improvements. There's a lot of white space in which you are not utilizing that can be filled with more content for better SEO and overall to make it more useful.

Also, why doesn't your homepage match your forums? I would try my best to make sure that the forums and homepage look like the same website. Right now, they look like 2 completely different websites. Even when I click on topics from your homepage, it opens in a new window, that should open in the same window, since you're not technically leaving the website. Also, the google ad you have on the homepage won't convert much since there's not enough content for it to read and adjust to for a related ad. The placement is also questionable.

As for the forums, it is extremely blue. Try and work on some more contrast. I like that you went with columned structure for the forums. In my opinion, this is definitely the best way to lay it out. However, I would still try and incorporate the latest thread this way you have more content showing and this way that page isn't always showing the same thing (better for seo)

Site looks good, but you can consider to add forum icons for forums, It can be better to make users easy to know where to go.

Too much blue for my taste (and I LOVE blue) lol.. also, for a gaming site, it does not strike me as one at all.. looks like it could/would be more of a general chat type site. The competition for gaming forums are intense, I'd recommended doing a little more to stand out and set yourself apart. Also, something that speaks "GAMING" the moment your site is viewed.

plubius 10-31-2015 04:49 PM

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. Wish I checked this earlier. I now may have to close the site for lack of members.

I am rethinking a new project because gaming as been all that I have known since 2003 when I first started my own site.

Helo, just a question, how did you manage to make the month show underneath? I don't see any option to make it like that.
